Description of Work

The position will work closely with program staff and various DHHS business offices and will require effective communication both written and verbal of regulations and financial data with regards to section requirements and/or needs. Effective time management and organization is critical to this position.

This position is responsible for key activities in the section including Accounts Payable, Motor Fleet, DIT phone bill, and other related duties. The position requires proficiency with the North Carolina Financial System (NCFS) and Excel to obtain fiscal information and track payables. This position will also require knowledge of the Department of Administration Motor Fleet policies and procedures. 

The Section is heavily audited by USDA, both fiscally and programmatically, State Audit, and Internal Audit. Errors caused by this position could result in audit findings and potential payback situations. Attention to detail is crucial to reduce and/or quickly correct errors that can result in audit exceptions and/or poor management decisions.

Knowledge Skills and Abilities/Management Preferences

Salary Grade Range: $35,984.00 - $62,971.00

Recruitment Range: $35,984.00 - $54,587.00

  • Knowledge of accounting practices and budget procedures.

  • Knowledge of State Governmental and Departmental policies and procedures.

  • Ability to reconcile budget expenditures and monitor accounts.

  • Experience with Accounts Payable.

  • Experience with Microsoft Excel and Word applications.

About the Division of Child and Family Well-Being

The Division of Child and Family Well-Being is a division at the NC Department of Health and Human Services (NCDHHS) that focuses on supporting whole child and family health and well-being for North Carolinians with several sections including nutrition programs (WIC, SNAP and Child and Adult Care Food Program), health & prevention services for children and youth, children’s behavioral health programs, and early intervention programs.  This position is housed within the Operations Unit in the Community Nutrition Services Section (CNSS) in the Division of Child and Family Well-Being (DCFW).  

About the Community Nutrition Services

The Community Nutrition Services Section promotes sound nutrition habits among women in their childbearing years, infants, children and youth. Section staff work with representatives of state, county and private providers/agencies to promote healthful dietary and physical activity behaviors and best practices.

The CNSS administers the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children (WIC), the WIC Farmers’ Market Nutrition Program (FMNP), the Breastfeeding Peer Counseling Program (BFPC), and the Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP). The CNSS collaborates with programs within the Division of Child and Family Well-Being (e.g., Food and Nutrition Services) and other Divisions within the Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) as well other public and private community agencies to coordinate nutrition policy, education and training efforts.
