POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture (PSLA) invites applications for a Full Time, 9-month tenure track at the rank of Assistant or Associate Professor to contribute to our Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) and Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) programs. We are looking for candidates who can teach broadly across the landscape architecture core curriculum.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will be expected to:
● Teach at least 13 credits of coursework per academic year plus MLA student thesis advising. Typically, this involves teaching two studios and one lecture/seminar course per academic year;
● Participate in department, college and university service activities and governance;
● Academic advising for undergraduate and graduate students.
● Engage in original scholarly research and/or creative work and to disseminate this work through a suitable peer-review process.

PROGRAM INFORMATION:
Landscape Architecture is housed within the Department of Plant Science and Landscape Architecture (PSLA) and the College of Agriculture and Natural Resources (AGNR) on the College Park campus of the University of Maryland. The Landscape Architecture Program offers two independently accredited professional degrees including a Bachelor of Landscape Architecture (BLA) and a Master of Landscape Architecture (MLA) as well as the Community Planning and Landscape Architecture (LACP), Historic Preservation and Landscape Architecture (HPLA) dual degree programs in collaboration with the School of Architecture, Planning, and Preservation. Excellent opportunities exist for collaborative engagement with the School of Architecture, Planning and Preservation, the School of Public Health, the National Center for Smart Growth Research and Education, and other administrative university units.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Required
● Accredited professional degree in landscape architecture or international equivalent
● Terminal degree in landscape architecture (MLA) or a related field


Physical Demands:
The employee is required to perform routine office duties. The employee will be occasionally required to attend meetings in other buildings on campus, doing so may necessitate walking across campus including going up stairs.


Preferences:

● Ph.D. in landscape architecture or a related field
● An active professional license in landscape architecture
● Professional practice experience in landscape architecture
● Outstanding portfolio of professional work
● Evidence of successful prior teaching at a university level
● Strengths in (but not limited to) one or more areas of expertise such as:
o Urban design practice, best practices in landscape-based urbanism, urban morphology, urban landscape systems, innovation and systemic approaches to urban transformations and urban redevelopment
o Plant-soil-climate relationships, ecological design and habitat restoration/creation, plant associations and communities, and support for biodiversity and pollinators.
o Climate conscience/performance, sustainable construction practices, material selections, site engineering techniques, green and blue infrastructure.
o Advanced traditional and digital graphic representation, mixed (analog + digital) media, experimental work with AR, VR, AI, and UAV data collection.
o Design for climate change adaptation and resilience, innovative approaches to co-creating and communicating systemic landscape transformations, and empowering underserved, marginalized or vulnerable populations or communities.
o Any other emerging landscape architecture communities of practice that will prepare graduates to innovate and improve on their impact on global and local landscape challenges
