Production Planner/Scheduler
Position Summary
The Production Planner/Scheduler is responsible for aligning customer requirements with manufacturing and material planning processes. This position serves as a primary customer contact for material-related matters, including shipments, purchase orders, delivery status, and customer order systems. The role monitors inventory, production priorities, supplier performance, and outbound logistics to support on-time delivery and efficient production operations.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Review PPDS and SAP systems as well as work-in-process inventory to confirm sufficient material is available to meet daily production requirements.
- Monitor and maintain customer and vendor online systems.
- Coordinate outbound expedites to customers.
- Prepare and communicate customer delivery-status reports as required.
- Review warehouse receipts and tab runs, identify discrepancies, and support timely resolution.
- Order and coordinate stock from intercompany suppliers.
- Adjust production schedules and stock orders as needed to support priority jobs and production requirements.
- Monitor inventory associated with obsolete jobs, spot buys, and jobs that are out of line with production; file customer obsolescence claims when required.
- Monitor supplier delivery-performance ratings and challenge ratings when appropriate.
- Coordinate routing changes with the Shipping Department.
- Maintain effective communication with customers, suppliers, manufacturing, warehousing, and shipping personnel regarding material availability and delivery priorities.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree or active pursuit of a four-year degree.
- At least two years of manufacturing scheduling experience.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work effectively across customers, suppliers, and internal departments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet changing production needs.
- Ability to review inventory, scheduling, delivery, and supplier-performance information accurately.
- Ability to make timely schedule and material-order adjustments based on production priorities.
Work Environment and Conditions
- Work is performed primarily in a professional office environment, with regular interaction in a manufacturing setting.
- Required personal protective equipment must be worn while on the manufacturing floor.
- Position-related equipment may be used only after appropriate training on safe operation and injury prevention.
Travel
Travel to manufacturing facilities or customer locations may be required based on business needs.
