ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Essential functions may include but are not limited to the functions listed below. Must be able to perform the essential functions of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation.
- Plan the installation and repair of electrical systems; may train lower-level staff in the installation and repair of electrical systems.
- Modify sketches of wiring and equipment locations as needed; read and interpret diagrams or blueprints to insure that concealed wiring is installed before completion of future walls, ceilings and flooring.
- Design and plan power, lighting, distribution and control systems to meet applicable codes and specifications.
- Calculate current loads, fuse sizes and other electrical requirements to insure proper operation of equipment.
- Install control and distribution equipment including switches, relays and circuit-breaker panels.
- Prepare labor and materials estimates for assigned electrical projects; coordinate assigned projects with department heads.
- Perform preventive maintenance on motors, motor control centers and all electrical feeds; repair malfunctions in motors, power supply circuits, starters and control circuits; disconnect motors for repair as required.
- May construct and maintain all electrical equipment at signalized intersections, pedestrian and school-zone flashers, street lighting and overhead signs.
- Perform telemetry cable maintenance and troubleshooting including problems with computer systems; repair, splice and install equipment.
- Test continuity of circuits to insure electrical compatibility and safety of components using testing instruments.
- Maintain and troubleshoot dimming systems in City-owned facilities and buildings; maintain and troubleshoot a variety of motor control centers.
- Maintain and troubleshoot building security systems including cameras, monitors and motion detectors; maintain and calibrate various electrical and pneumatic controllers.
- May maintain and repair electrical systems in City-owned community centers, swimming pools, golf courses, tennis courts, sports stadiums and fields, street lights, traffic signals and various other City-owned facilities, buildings and grounds.
- Repair a variety of vandalized electrical equipment including light fixtures, lamps and lenses.
- Repair, replace and install new conduit systems in existing and new buildings.
- Operate a variety of electrical maintenance, repair and installation equipment and vehicles including trucks, cranes, fork-lifts, hand tools, power tools, meters, aerial trucks and a variety of related equipment.
- Ensure adherence to safe work practices and procedures; maintain effective communications with communications tower.
- Purchase electrical materials and repair parts from vendors as needed.
- Attend seminars and training programs.
- Perform related duties and responsibilities as required.
Five (5) years electrical experience at the journey level.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
Possession of a valid New Mexico Driver's License, or the ability to obtain by date of hire.
Possession of a City Operator's Permit (COP) within six (6) months from date of hire.
Possession of a valid State of New Mexico Electrical License, journey level.
Environmental:
Indoor and outdoor environment; exposure to electrical and radiant energy, high voltage, noise, dust, grease, smoke, fumes, gases, moving objects/vehicles, inclement weather conditions; work or inspect in confined spaces; work on slippery or uneven surfaces; work at heights on scaffolding and ladders; work in or with water; work with machinery.
Physical:
Essential and supplemental functions may require maintaining physical condition necessary for walking, standing, sitting, bending, stooping, kneeling, crawling for prolonged periods; heavy, moderate or light lifting and carrying; pulling, pushing, reaching above shoulder; and operating motorized equipment and vehicles.
