Position Summary
The Senior Manager, Haematology Communication & Public Affairs, IM Japan supports Innovative Medicine Communications and Public Affairs by helping to execute integrated communications strategies that advance business priorities, strengthen stakeholder trust, and enhance reputation across our haematology business in Japan.
This role partners closely with VP, Haematology Japan, key members of the Japan Haematology business unit, Medical Affairs, Global Therapeutic Area CPA colleagues, Public Affairs, and regional teams to contribute to clear narratives, aligned messaging and materials, and consistent execution in market. The Senior Manager will contribute to day-to-day execution, translating global strategies into compelling, locally relevant communications activations and ensuring a coordinated, high-impact approach across channels.
The role operates within a highly matrixed, global-to-local model, contributing to a two-way partnership that delivers consistent strategy through local adaptation and execution.
Key Responsibilities
Haematology Communications Strategy & Execution
- Lead Japan communications and public affairs activations for our entire haematology portfolio
- The role is a member of the Japan Haematology Leadership Team.
- Contribute insights from Japan to the development of global communications and public affairs strategies for the Therapeutic Area, aligned with Japan’s business priorities, portfolio milestones, and lifecycle moments (e.g., data readouts, launches, growth initiatives).
- Translate complex scientific data and strategies into clear, compelling messaging across earned, owned, and paid channels.
- Adapt and deliver core messaging, content, and campaigns for local market impact.
- Support proactive communications that differentiate our haemtology business in Japan, including disease awareness, innovation storytelling, and product communications, where applicable.
- Accelerate Japan haematology product launches and support priority growth brands at key moments.
Cross-Functional Leadership & Strategic Counsel
- Serve as a trusted partner to internal stakeholders across the haematology business unit, Medical Affairs, and broader cross-functional partners to support communications initiatives
- Provide day-to-day communications counsel to connect Japan business objectives with communications outcomes and inform decision-making.
- Align global communications strategies with public affairs, policy, and access considerations to support Japan market shaping and stakeholder engagement.
- Collaborate with regional and global teams to co-create strategies and ensure strong pull-through of global priorities into local execution.
- Operate effectively in a matrixed model.
Global-to-Local Integration & Execution
- Enable a globally consistent, locally activated communications model by partnering with regional and global teams to adapt strategies, messaging, and materials.
- Ensure alignment with governance, regulatory, and compliance requirements in Japan.
- Contribute to coordinated execution of media, digital, stakeholder, and campaign activities in partnership with Global and Asia Pacific core capabilities teams.
Public Affairs Integration
- Embed public affairs considerations into our haematology strategies to support policy, access, and market-shaping priorities.
- Partner with Global and Asia Pacific Public Affairs colleagues to align messaging, stakeholder engagement, and external positioning.
- Support activation of value narratives that reinforce access, reimbursement, and policy objectives.
Insights, Monitoring & Continuous Improvement
- Support monitoring and analysis of media, stakeholder, and competitive landscape to identify risks and opportunities.
- Contribute to measurement, reporting, and analytics to assess communications impact and inform strategy refinement.
- Capture insights and best practices to improve global toolkits, messaging, and execution models over time.

- Leverage centralized tools, platforms, and capabilities (e.g., digital, media, measurement) to drive consistency and efficiency.

Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree a plus
- Minimum of 8+ years of experience in communications, public affairs, or related field (corporate, agency, NGO, or government) in Japan with a strong track record of results
- Experience supporting global or regional communications strategies, including product or portfolio communications
- Demonstrated ability to work effectively in a matrixed, global environment and influence cross-functional stakeholders
- Strong English and Japanese writing, editing, and storytelling skills, including translating complex scientific content into accessible messaging
- Experience supporting media, digital, and integrated communications campaigns
- Strong organizational, analytical, and project management skills with ability to manage multiple priorities
