Ontario Health is seeking a forward-thinking Manager, Health Data Advancement to lead enterprise-wide modernization of health data operations, data quality, analytical enablement, automation, and AI-ready data practices. Reporting to the Director, Health System Data Services, this role will shape scalable, fit-for-purpose data capabilities that support better decision-making, responsible data reuse, and Ontario Health’s broader digital transformation priorities.
This is an opportunity for a strategic people leader to build high-performing teams, influence senior partners, and advance modern data practices across a complex healthcare system. The successful candidate will bring strong expertise in data management, operational improvement, digital transformation, stakeholder engagement, and emerging technology adoption, including AI, automation, cloud-based tools, and modern analytics enablement.
Lead meaningful, province-wide work that strengthens how health data is managed, reused, and enabled for analytics, reporting, research, planning, and AI-supported innovation.
Influence enterprise data strategy, governance, modernization priorities, and future-state operating models in partnership with senior leaders, Digital Excellence in Health, privacy, legal, analytics, business, and external partners.
Build and coach a collaborative, high-performing team focused on innovation, service excellence, continuous improvement, and inclusive leadership.
Here is what you will be doing:
Key Responsibilities
Advance data modernization: Lead the Health Data Advancement team in developing scalable approaches, standards, frameworks, and technical solutions that improve data quality, data accessibility, data operations, analytical enablement, and enterprise readiness for secondary use and AI-driven analytics.
Transform processes through automation: Identify and implement opportunities to streamline manual workflows, reduce operational effort, improve quality, and modernize service delivery using automation, AI-assisted capabilities, cloud-native tools, and Microsoft/Azure ecosystem solutions.
Shape enterprise strategy and governance: Provide strategic advice, recommendations, roadmaps, maturity assessments, and future-state operating models to senior leaders, governance bodies, and enterprise committees focused on data quality, information management, AI, modernization, and emerging data priorities.
Lead people and resources: Recruit, coach, mentor, and develop a high-performing team; manage workload, priorities, resources, and operational planning; and promote continuous learning in AI, automation, analytics, cloud technologies, and modern data practices.
Deliver complex initiatives: Oversee multiple concurrent modernization programs and operational improvement projects, including planning, timelines, dependencies, risks, budgets, reporting, executive briefings, business cases, and change management activities.
Build trusted partnerships: Collaborate across Ontario Health portfolios and with Ministry partners, healthcare organizations, vendors, researchers, and external stakeholders to align priorities, define requirements, facilitate planning, and advance provincial health data modernization objectives.
Champion innovation and values: Foster a culture grounded in collaboration, accountability, service excellence, inclusion, diversity, equity, accessibility, anti-racism, and continuous improvement.
Here is what you will need to be successful:
Education and Experience
Undergraduate degree in Health Sciences, Health Administration, Business Administration, Information Management, Computer Science, Engineering, Data Analytics, or related field required; Master’s degree preferred
10+ years of progressive professional experience.
5+ years of progressively responsible experience in data management, analytics, operational improvement, digital transformation, or related fields, including leadership of teams, projects, and programs within large, complex organizations; healthcare or public sector experience is preferred
Experience leading strategic modernization, automation, digital transformation, or continuous improvement initiatives
Certifications in ITIL, AI/ML Engineering, Cloud AI, Data Process Automation or PMI are considered an asset
Experience managing cross-functional projects involving operational change, technology implementation, or enterprise data initiatives, is required
Experience working with cloud-based platforms and modern data ecosystems, preferably within Microsoft Azure environments
Technical Knowledge and Expertise
Strong understanding of modern data management practices, data quality, data operations, and analytical enablement principles
Knowledge of AI, automation technologies, workflow optimization tools, and emerging digital capabilities relevant to operational and analytical environments
Familiarity with Microsoft and Azure ecosystem tools and capabilities, including automation, reporting, cloud data services, and AI-enabled technologies
Strong understanding of fit-for-purpose data quality and design principles
Knowledge of healthcare data, health system reporting, and Ontario healthcare system priorities considered an asset
Knowledge of provincial health privacy legislation and data governance principles considered an asset
Leadership and Core Competencies
