The Opportunity

The Department of Safety Science at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University in Prescott seeks a single-term, Visiting Assistant or Associate Professor of Safety Science in the College of Aviation. This is a teaching-focused position with an expectation to teach 4 sections in the Spring 2027 semester. This position has no research expectations, although opportunities for research may be available. This position's expected start date is January 4, 2027.

This position primarily focuses on teaching undergraduate and graduate courses in aviation safety (AVSF) and safety science (SFTY). The instructed courses may include the subjects of aircraft accident investigation, structural and mechanical failures in aircraft accident investigation, safety training and leadership, research methods, or occupational safety.

The successful candidate will have a strong desire to focus on innovative and high-quality instruction in a collegial and collaborative environment. The successful candidate will deliver high-quality instruction, demonstrate teaching excellence, and engage in activities to enrich the academic experience and advance the field of aviation safety.

About the department of Safety Science, Prescott Campus

The Safety Science Department at Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, Prescott, serves students at the BS and MS levels and is housed in the College of Aviation. The department features undergraduate and graduate education in aviation safety, supporting the aviation safety minor and an MS in Safety Science. The department facilities include the Robertson Aircraft Accident Investigation Lab, Aviation Safety and Security Archives, and additional lab spaces.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

Candidates must have an MS in Aviation, Aerospace, Safety, or a closely related field, with at least 18 credits of PhD progress in a related discipline. An earned PhD in discipline or a closely related field is preferred.
