Process & Pack Implementation (PPI) Technologist

The Process & Pack Implementation (PPI) Technologist provides frontline technical support for the deployment of innovation, sustainability, and productivity initiatives across Mars Petcare North America’s packaging portfolio. The Technologist, PPI plays a critical role in driving operational excellence, collaborating with cross-functional stakeholders, and advancing scalable, sustainable packaging solutions across the manufacturing network. 

Success in this role requires connecting innovative workstreams with high-quality, consistent manufacturing outcomes to deliver packaging solutions that meet evolving pet parent needs. The Technologist PPI is responsible for supporting business-critical projects and site trials, ensuring alignment from concept through commercialization and handover. 

This role provides technical support for continuous improvement, process efficiency, and process standardization at full-scale manufacturing sites. This role is responsible for driving process improvements and enhancing operational performance through the application of root-cause problem solving and statistical analysis, leveraging extensive knowledge of packaging materials, package design, manufacturing processes, and packaging equipment. 

This role is based in Bolton with regular in-office collaboration expected. Flexibility is a key enabler—empowering associates to make choices that support both business outcomes and personal needs, including remote work.

What are we looking for?

• Bachelor or Associate’s Mechanical, Chemical, Food Process Engineering, Packaging, or equivalent experience. 
• 2–3+ years of technical experience in packaging, food manufacturing, quality assurance, or process engineering.  
•  Demonstrated hands-on experience supporting trials, new equipment/material qualifications, and root-cause analysis.  
• Strong understanding of machinery and scale up risks 
•  Willingness to travel 15% 

 

What will be your key responsibilities?

Deployment & Handover: Support the execution of packaging trials, start-ups, and technology rollouts, ensuring seamless handover documentation and site operational readiness. 

 

Site R&D Liaison: Function as the primary site-based technical representative connecting Packaging R&D and manufacturing teams to support project execution, issue resolution, and informed decision-making. 

  

Process Optimization & Standardization: Partner with central engineering and operations to establish, simplify, and standardize process parameters for commercial and pipeline packaging materials. 

 

Operational Excellence: Identify, prioritize, and implement process improvement opportunities using RCA, and SPC tools to improve equipment performance, reduce waste, and standardize manufacturing processes. 

 

Protocol Design & Testing: Collaborate with broader R&D teams to design and execute qualification protocols, testing specifications, and modeling/simulation tools with minimal operational disruption.
