Purpose:

• The Manager Engineer is responsible for the leadership of one or more engineering scrum teams to plan, deliver and support service features that deliver customer value and/or mature service capability.
• You are responsible of Service ownership of the assets
• You are accountable for delivering  business outcomes in your assets  inline with epics and features: the right amount of planning and design to enable focused delivery
• Your accountable for People Leadership in line with NAB Policies and drive a learning-
• You  will work with Product Owners, Architects, designers, engineering and testing scrum team to Assess requirements, review designs, plan and strategize continuous performance testing solutions to deliver performant and / or mature service capability
• Your will contribute to formulate strategies in the area
• You are a thought leader responsible to drive growth mindset , innovation culture in the team.

Essential Capabilities:

•Experience in technology start up scenarios

•Customer / Product focus

•Experience in providing technology leadership to engineering teams in Agile environment

•Proven experience of delivering large and complex technical deliveries

•Proven experience of leading large engineering teams both change and run

•Proven ability to use relevant data analytics approaches and tools to problem-solve and trouble-shoot.

•Knowledge & experience with Build languages ( Java )

•Attentive to details with high Focus on quality and detail

•Excellent documentation and communication skills.

•Strong stakeholder management skills

•Able to navigate in a large complex organisation & build relationships with Senior stakeholders using informal and formal networks

Experience:

• 18+ years in enterprise delivery; 10+ years leading large-scale engineering teams
• Proven ownership of mission‑critical microservices platforms (Java/Spring Boot) at scale
• Deep expertise in cloud-native architecture, performance engineering, and resilience (AWS/Azure)
• Strategic, data-led decision maker driving measurable business and reliability outcomes
• Experience in Banking Domain (Preferred experience in Australian Payments - cross border payments, SWIFT ecosystem, ISO 20022)
• Good to have Payments modernisation experience
• Strong people & leadership capability – building and scaling high-performing teams and leaders
• Demonstrated ability to influence senior stakeholders and drive cross-functional alignment
• Champions innovation and test‑and‑learn culture

Key Accountabilities:

• Responsible for the overall technology needs of the service teams along through management of technology processes, platforms, priorities, and third party providers
• Responsible for technology fit-gap assessment of demand into service teams and active participant of backlog grooming
• Responsible for direction setting and technology roadmap definition in line with unit’s technology performance strategy
• Shape, Design, Develop, Support & Implement Software Delivery in alignment with the roadmap
• Work with delivery teams to achieve success through the adoption of CI/CD and DevOps practices, processes and tooling.
• Major contribution to technology strategy for innovative solutions approved by Executive
• Often involved in technology/business project outside their immediate areas of responsibility, Act as area representative in group wide initiatives

• Leading, Coaching & mentoring of team to uplift skills and knowledge to perform their role
• Champion a CI/CD mindset and corresponding cultural transformation.
• Promote collaboration (both internal and external to Service team) of Software Delivery Tools, Continuous Delivery and DevOps usage at NAB
• Maintain an understanding of ‘Best practice’ initiatives within own specialist area, and IT in general by continually seeking out relevant industry and technical knowledge. Improve on professional skills by completing necessary development activities
• Develop to, maintain and validate engineering standards, application architecture and design patterns, ‘code level’ standards etc.
