Senior Civil Engineer – Transportation / Highway

We are representing a well-established public-sector engineering organization in the greater Milwaukee, WI area in search of an experienced Senior Civil Engineer to join its engineering team.

This is an excellent opportunity for a highway/roadway/transportation engineer who wants meaningful project ownership, exposure to complex capital improvement projects, and the ability to stay closely involved in both the technical and project management sides of the work.

The role is heavily focused on WisDOT-related highway project development, including federally funded projects, and will involve managing projects from early planning and scoping through design, permitting, real estate coordination, utility relocation, bidding, and construction support.

What You’ll Be Doing:

👉🏼Manage complex highway and transportation projects through the WisDOT Facilities Development Process.
👉🏼Coordinate with WisDOT, regulatory/resource agencies, municipalities, utilities, consultants, contractors, property owners, and other stakeholders.
👉🏼Lead capital highway projects involving:

Roadway reconstruction and expansion
Intersection improvements
Drainage and stormwater
Utility coordination
Traffic operations and traffic control
Real estate acquisition

👉🏼Manage project scope, schedule, budget, quality, risk, and communication.
👉🏼Develop project specifications, cost estimates, RFPs, bid documents, and other technical documentation.
👉🏼Oversee consultant design efforts and ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and to appropriate quality standards.
👉🏼Prepare and administer professional service and construction-related contracts.
👉🏼Coordinate engineering solutions with highway operations and maintenance personnel.
👉🏼Support highway asset management and long-range capital planning.
👉🏼Help identify future infrastructure needs, develop project scopes, and establish project priorities.
👉🏼Review traffic engineering studies, reports, analyses, and plan production.
👉🏼Provide technical guidance and mentorship to less-experienced engineering staff.
👉🏼Participate in public meetings, hearings, and stakeholder discussions.
👉🏼Proactively identify and resolve technical, contractual, scheduling, and project-delivery issues.

What We’re Looking For

The strongest candidate will bring a solid background in roadway/highway design and project development, ideally within Wisconsin.

Experience with the following is especially important:

👉🏼Highway/roadway design and construction
👉🏼Federally funded transportation projects
👉🏼Project management and project controls
👉🏼Consultant management
👉🏼DOT standards, specifications, and documentation
👉🏼Traffic engineering and traffic control
👉🏼Drainage and public infrastructure
👉🏼CADD, GIS, and related engineering software

Knowledge of the following is also highly desirable:

👉🏼WisDOT Traffic Engineering, Operations and Safety Manual

Compensation

Base Salary: Approximately $93,000 – $129,000, depending on experience and qualifications.
