Description
Description
MVI is seeking an experienced Project Manager III who knows how to turn complex requirements into organized, successful project delivery. This role is for a strong project leader who can see the big picture while staying on top of the details—scope, schedule, budget, resources, risks, quality, and communication.
The Project Manager III owns projects from award through completion and serves as a key connection point between project teams, cross-functional partners, leadership, customers, vendors, and other stakeholders. Success in this role requires more than maintaining a project plan. We are looking for someone who anticipates challenges, drives accountability, communicates clearly, and keeps teams moving toward the finish line.
What You'll Do
Project Planning & Execution
- Own assigned projects from award through successful completion, with accountability for scope, schedule, budget, labor, resources, and deliverables.
- Develop and maintain detailed project plans, timelines, milestones, budgets, and resource allocations.
- Establish clear project objectives, responsibilities, deadlines, and success criteria.
- Manage project scope and ensure proposed changes or scope creep are identified, documented, evaluated, and approved by the appropriate stakeholders.
- Adjust project plans and resource allocations as priorities, requirements, or project conditions change.
- Maintain visibility into project progress and ensure teams remain aligned with contractual and organizational expectations.
Team Leadership
- Lead cross-functional and multi-disciplinary project teams with a focus on accountability, collaboration, communication, and results.
- Set clear expectations for project team members and ensure responsibilities and deadlines are understood.
- Facilitate effective project meetings that drive decisions, ownership, and measurable next steps.
- Identify roadblocks and proactively work with team members and leadership to resolve them.
- Foster an environment where issues are raised early rather than becoming last-minute surprises.
Stakeholder & Customer Management
- Serve as a primary point of contact for project stakeholders throughout the project lifecycle.
- Provide clear, accurate, and timely updates regarding project status, milestones, risks, budget, schedule, and deliverables.
- Coordinate communication between project teams, customers, leadership, external vendors, and other stakeholders.
- Manage expectations and escalate significant risks, delays, resource constraints, or changes when appropriate.
Risk Management
- Proactively identify project risks, dependencies, constraints, and potential obstacles.
- Develop and maintain mitigation and contingency plans.
- Monitor risks throughout the project lifecycle and communicate emerging concerns before they impact delivery.
- Escalate critical risks with recommended solutions and clearly defined next steps.
Performance Monitoring & Project Controls
- Track project performance using established project management tools, metrics, and reporting processes.
- Monitor task completion, milestones, budgets, labor hours, schedules, and resource utilization.
- Identify at-risk activities and implement corrective actions or recovery plans.
- Use project data to identify trends, forecast challenges, and support informed decision-making.
- Ensure project information and reporting remain accurate and current.
Quality Assurance
- Ensure project deliverables meet established quality standards, contractual requirements, customer expectations, and specifications.
- Partner with project teams to identify and resolve quality concerns before final delivery.
- Support continuous improvement by capturing lessons learned and applying them to future projects.
Documentation & Communication
- Maintain comprehensive and audit-ready project documentation, including project plans, schedules, budgets, meeting records, status reports, decisions, risks, and change documentation.
- Prepare agendas, meeting notes, action items, project summaries, and leadership updates.
- Ensure project records accurately reflect project decisions, commitments, and status.
Requirements
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in project management, Business Administration, Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 5+ years of progressive project management experience, preferably managing complex, technical, government, defense, software, simulation, or similarly structured projects.
- Demonstrated experience managing projects with responsibility for budgets, schedules, labor, resources, risks, and deliverables.
- Experience leading cross-functional teams and managing multiple priorities simultaneously.
- Strong understanding of project management methodologies, processes, and project controls.
- Proven ability to identify risks, solve problems, manage competing priorities, and drive projects to completion.
- Strong written, verbal, presentation, and stakeholder-management skills.
- Ability to communicate effectively with technical teams, business leaders, customers, and external partners.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Proficiency with project management and collaboration tools.
- Ability to operate effectively in a fast-paced environment where priorities and requirements may evolve.
Preferred Qualifications
- PMP, CAPM, Scrum, Agile, or other recognized project management certification.
- Experience supporting U.S. Government or Department of Defense contracts and customers.
- Familiarity with government contracting requirements, project cost controls, and compliance-driven environments.
- Experience managing software development, XR/VR, simulation, training, technology, or other technical projects.
- Experience working with Agile, Waterfall, or hybrid project management methodologies.
- Travel required up to 30% of the time.
