Description
Senior Software Development Engineer in Test
Location: Vinings, Atlanta, Georgia
Work Arrangement: Hybrid, three days onsite per week
Employment Type: Full-time
About the Role
Connexure is seeking a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test to help strengthen our quality engineering practices across a growing portfolio of enterprise applications and modern cloud-based platforms.
This is a hands-on engineering role for someone who can design test strategies, build maintainable automation frameworks, contribute production-quality code, and help teams advance toward an automation-first quality strategy.
The successful candidate will be comfortable working across multiple workstreams, balancing competing priorities, and learning unfamiliar systems quickly. Our technology environment includes C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Microsoft SQL Server, PostgreSQL, APIs, integrations, and distributed systems.
The Senior SDET should also be comfortable supporting release validation, exploratory testing, and manual regression when needed. However, the expectation is that this person will consistently identify opportunities to improve coverage and replace repetitive manual validation with reliable, maintainable automation.
Responsibilities
-
Design, develop, and maintain automated test frameworks, test harnesses, utilities, and supporting infrastructure.
-
Develop automated tests for APIs, web applications, databases, integrations, and distributed systems.
-
Partner with software engineers, product owners, and quality engineers to improve testability and define effective quality strategies.
-
Review requirements, architecture, acceptance criteria, and technical designs to identify quality risks and coverage gaps.
-
Create test strategies that balance unit, integration, API, UI, database, regression, performance, and exploratory testing.
-
Write production-quality test code using one or more modern programming languages.
-
Perform database validation and develop automated data-verification solutions using SQL.
-
Participate in manual regression, exploratory testing, and release-certification activities when required.
-
Identify high-value manual test scenarios and convert them into automated coverage.
-
Analyze test failures, application logs, data issues, and system behavior to isolate root causes.
-
Contribute to CI/CD pipelines and improve the reliability and visibility of automated test execution.
-
Help establish engineering standards for test design, automation architecture, reporting, and maintainability.
-
Mentor other quality engineers and provide constructive technical guidance through code reviews and design discussions.
-
Use AI-assisted software development tools responsibly to accelerate test design, implementation, debugging, documentation, and code review.
-
Work independently across multiple projects while communicating risks, dependencies, and progress clearly.
Required Qualifications
-
Seven or more years of professional experience in software quality engineering, test automation, software development, or a closely related technical role.
-
Demonstrated professional programming experience with one or more of the following:
-
Python
-
TypeScript
-
JavaScript
-
C#
-
Java
-
-
Strong SQL skills and experience validating relational databases.
-
Experience designing or significantly contributing to test automation frameworks or test harnesses.
-
Strong understanding of software architecture, test architecture, test design, and application testability.
-
Experience testing APIs, web applications, databases, and system integrations.
-
Ability to read application code, troubleshoot failures, and collaborate effectively with software developers.
-
Experience integrating automated tests into CI/CD pipelines.
-
Experience designing maintainable test suites rather than relying primarily on record-and-playback automation.
-
Ability to perform risk-based testing and determine the appropriate level of coverage for a change.
-
Demonstrated proficiency using AI-assisted software development tools as part of an engineering workflow.
-
Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities across multiple workstreams.
-
Intellectual curiosity, sound judgment, and the ability to learn unfamiliar systems quickly.
-
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
-
Ability to work onsite in the Vinings area of Atlanta three days per week.
-
Must be legally authorized to work in the United States without current or future employer-sponsored work authorization.
Preferred Qualifications
-
Experience working across application stacks involving C#, TypeScript, JavaScript, Python, Microsoft SQL Server, or PostgreSQL.
-
Experience with Playwright, Cypress, Selenium, REST-assured, pytest, NUnit, xUnit, or similar tools.
-
Experience testing event-driven, service-oriented, or distributed architectures.
-
Experience with cloud-hosted applications and containerized test environments.
-
Experience with performance, load, security, or reliability testing.
-
Experience building test-data management, environment-validation, or database-seeding utilities.
-
Experience working in insurance, benefits, healthcare technology, financial services, or another regulated industry.
-
Experience coaching other engineers in automation design and quality engineering practices.
What Success Looks Like
Within the first several months, the Senior SDET will be expected to:

-
Improve the reliability, maintainability, and visibility of existing automation.
-
Reduce repetitive manual regression effort without sacrificing release confidence.
-
Establish credibility as a technical quality partner across engineering, product, and QA.
-
Help the organization progress toward an automation-first quality engineering strategy.
