Associate Director, Government Technologies

Johnson Controls is a global leader in thermal management, mission-critical building systems, energy efficiency, and decarbonization, helping customers use energy more productively, reduce carbon emissions, and operate with the precision and resilience required in rapidly expanding industries such as data centers, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, advanced manufacturing, and higher education.

For more than 140 years, Johnson Controls has delivered performance where it really matters. Backed by advanced technology, lifecycle services, and an industry-leading field organization, we elevate customer performance, turn goals into real-world results, and help move society forward.

Role Overview

In this role, you will support the operational and financial health of the Government Technologies organization and its projects. You will help lead the group across sales, operations, and support functions by strengthening best practices, improving processes, coordinating work schedules, and ensuring the team consistently meets or exceeds service level commitments.

You will also help maintain procedures and controls that keep GT projects aligned with contract requirements, performance standards, budgets, and schedules. Success in this role depends on strong customer relationships, close collaboration with branch offices, effective subcontractor management, and a disciplined focus on quality, safety, cost, and customer satisfaction.

Key Responsibilities

  • Provide direct support to the GT Operations Director and help drive the overall health of the Government Technologies organization.
  • Directly manage the GT Customer Care Team and support team performance, productivity, and service levels.
  • Establish and enforce best practices across sales, operations, and support functions.
  • Support design and implementation of project management process improvements that strengthen fiscal control, customer satisfaction, and contractual compliance.
  • Supervise field installation activities as needed to help ensure execution aligns with project expectations.
  • Implement corporate and group initiatives, including process improvements and new system roll-outs.
  • Support company initiatives and training that reinforce operational health and ethics.
  • Lead, manage, direct, and develop technical and project team members in effective project management practices and techniques.
  • Assist with budget management to help the group meet and exceed corporate targets.
  • Coordinate with corporate accounting, procurement, and supply chain functions to support operational execution.
  • Participate in business development activities, including win strategy development, operational proposal responses, and proposal reviews.
  • Manage internal and external audits related to operational activities.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customer management, JCI branch offices, and subcontractors to support efficient and profitable business outcomes.

How You Will Do It

  • Own outcomes with accountability, safety, and integrity by following through on commitments, protecting proprietary information, and aligning with Johnson Controls policies, regulations, and codes of conduct.
  • Stay close to the work and remove obstacles for customers by keeping a clear view of project execution, field activity, service expectations, and customer priorities.
  • Use process improvement as a daily discipline to strengthen fiscal control, improve service delivery, and solve issues early and candidly.
  • Win as one team by collaborating across operations, accounting, procurement, supply chain, branch offices, subcontractors, and customer stakeholders.
  • Use clear communication, coaching, and follow-up to help team members perform at a high level and develop strong project management habits.
  • Apply structured controls and review routines to keep work on schedule, within budget, and aligned to contract requirements.
  • Use data, observations, and audit findings to support practical decisions and continuous improvement.
  • Adapt quickly to changing priorities, unexpected demands, and evolving project conditions while keeping work organized and professional.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business or a technical field.
  • Ten years of general management experience, including at least five years as a Program Manager of a national program.
  • Project Management Institute PMP or PgM certification, or Certified Protection Professional (CPP).
  • Deep understanding of current JCI systems, organizational structure, and delivery methods.
  • Working knowledge of federal government procurement, including FAR, DFAR, and GSA.
  • Strong understanding of project financial management.
  • Proven ability to lead, manage, mentor, and influence team behavior to achieve results.
  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Proficiency in MS Office applications.
  • Ability to adjust to unexpected job demands, changes in assignments, and changing working conditions.
  • Ability to travel less than 25%.
  • Alignment with Johnson Controls policies, regulations, and codes of conduct governing all aspects of the role.
  • Ability to protect Johnson Controls proprietary information and take ownership of actions and commitments.

Nice to Have

  • Experience managing teams and projects that include design, installation, testing, and integration of security systems.
  • Strong business intuition and experience influencing decisions in a complex operating environment.
