Description
The position is responsible for performing entry level to semi-skilled labor tasks in grounds maintenance, janitorial activities, and assisting with water services. Reports to the Crew Leader.
Essential functions are fundamental job duties. They do not include marginal tasks, which are also performed but are not incidental to the primary functions. The essential functions identified for this job are:
- Reads all water meters in Town, including conducting water meter re-reads, meter exchanges and water testing activities;
- Assist with repairs of water breaks, locates water lines, and makes new connections;
- Performs a variety of maintenance activities, to include, but not limited to operating, cleaning and maintaining equipment, maintaining public rights-of-way, repairing or replacing street signs, addressing safety/road hazards;
- Performs a variety of ground duties such as mowing grounds and rights-of-way, fertilizing, weed-trimming, planting foliage, trimming foliage, and replacing sod;
- Operates a variety of light to medium equipment such as mowers, edgers, weed-eaters, backhoes, tractors, chippers, chainsaws, blowers, concrete mixers, pressure washers, and other equipment as assigned;
- Cleans and clears culverts, gutters, ditches, swales, and storm drains;
- Performs minor electrical, plumbing, and carpentry repairs;
- Performs janitorial duties and minor maintenance work at Town facilities;
- Participates in storm preparedness, response, and recovery activities to ensure readiness and continuity of operations;
- Performs a variety of support activities, including setting up for meetings and events and record-keeping responsibilities;
- Works after hours and on-call weekends as required.
Minimum Qualifications: Must possess high school diploma or equivalent. Some experience in grounds or facility maintenance; light electrical and small engine repair is desirable. Must be able to obtain a Stormwater Operator License and become certified in Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) within one (1) year of hire. Must possess and maintain a Class E driver’s license.

Equipment: The employee operates small hand and power tools, light and medium equipment and trucks. The employee uses and operates a variety of office and computer equipment, and related software.

- Ability to perform water meter reading assignments including reading and reporting data, determining location of meters, replacing meters as required and testing water;
- Ability to repair water breaks and tap new services while following established work methods and procedures;
- Ability to perform a variety of maintenance activities while following established work methods and procedures;
- Ability to operate and conduct preventive maintenance on equipment, including maintaining proper records;
- Ability to follow established safety standards while completing work assignments.
