Education Program Assistant I [25 hrs/week]

Title:     Impact Lead I-Education -Part Time

Work Schedule: Part-time, non- exempt; generally scheduled up to 25 hours a week, Monday – Friday between 8:00 am-7:00 pm with occasional evenings and weekends for field trips and special events.

Reports to:  Site Supervisor, Monterey

Location:   Casanova Oak Knoll Park Center 735 Ramona Ave., Monterey, CA

Position Summary:

Working under the direction of the Site Supervisor, the Boys & Girls Clubs of Monterey County (BGCMC) Education Impact Leader I plays an essential role in helping youth succeed as they directly serve as positive role models, mentors and activity leaders to diverse youth delivering an engaging, age-appropriate and outcome-driven education program with specialized focus on literacy support. Further, the BGCMC Impact Leader I is responsible for contributing to the following key elements of positive youth development:

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Youth Success 

• Assists youth in homework after school supervision
• Accepts responsibility as a Role Model/Mentor for Youth and Mandated Reporter
• Assists youth in web-based literacy intervention programming using Read Naturally and/or assigned web-based literacy or math programs
• Participate in the setting and achievement of Academic Success goals for the education department
• Lead and/or collaborate in activities and/or programs in one or more of the Core Program Areas: Academic Success, Health & Wellbeing, Character & Leadership and Life & Workforce Readiness
• Ability to utilize impact management tools to track and report program outcomes, including monitoring specific youth success indicators such as school attendance, behavior, grades, frequency of attendance, program attendance and impact;
• Serve as role model to youth exemplifying the pillars of Good Character & Citizenship
• Serve as a mentor to guide youth through personal and educational challenges
• Demonstrate integrity, sound judgment, respect for others, and a strong commitment to the positive development and well-being of youth
• Model appropriate behavior, professionalism, responsibility, and respectful communication at all times.
• Assist in conducting parent meetings in an effort to engage families with youth success
• Foster an environment where youth acquire a sense of belonging, competence, usefulness, power and influence, and are engaged in developmentally appropriate, high yield learning activities primarily for grades K-5
• Address youth behavior with a positive discipline approach that is fair, firm, consistent and kind;  helping youth take responsibility/accountability for their actions accompanied with appropriate consequences
• Support a culture of high expectations and frequent recognition of youth
• Ensure the assigned program area is clean and reflective of monthly themes; program supplies are adequate and inviting for all elementary students (K-5th grade)

Program Impact 

• Implement daily activities to ensure alignment with organizational goals, efficiency standards, and quality specifications
• Maintains positive, collaborative working relationships with key stakeholders
• Imbue BGCMC’s solid reputation as a respected, trusted & impactful youth development agency
• Adhere to safety policies and procedures determined by each site location
• Maintains safety and order of program, including field trips and youth services delivered at non-BGCMC locations as well as compliance to policy and standard operating procedures 
• Assist with maintaining inventory and steward for intended use
• Assist site team on special event planning and execution in coordination with Operations
• Clearance of pre-employment screening including background check and drug screening
• Ability to provide support to other program departments (ie. SFR, CCR, Nutrition, etc) as needed
• Ability to work in a dynamic, high-energy youth friendly environment

Requirements

Physical Demands

• Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs
• Must be able to bend, lift, stretch
• Ability to remain in stationary position including standing or sitting for up to 25% of shift

Education & Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent
• Minimum of 6 month’s experience working with youth ages 6-14 years old
• Efficient and effective planning and problem solving skills
• Tech savvy, including proficiency in utilizing Google Suite and Internet 
• Specialization in one or more of the following Programming Areas (be sure to specify which you possess in your application):
  • Technology 
  • Literacy & Reading 
  • Math 
  • Science & Engineering
• Effectively demonstrates classroom management skills
• Must have reliable transportation 

Highly desirable qualifications: 

• Bi-lingual and biliterate in English and Spanish
• Connectedness and experience working and living in Monterey County communities, especially those located in the Monterey Bay  
• Experience as a youth development professional in the Boys & Girls Club Movement
• Cultural competence, ability to work with a diverse youth and people
• First Aid & CPR Certification

Compensation:

Pay rate begins at $19.00 - $19.96 per hour, and is based on experience. Professional development opportunities are available contingent upon funding and approval. This position is classified as non-exempt and as such is eligible for the overtime provisions of the Fair Labor Standards Act.
