What you'll be doing
Commercial & Wealth Credit Risk Management supports CIBC’s Commercial Banking and Wealth Management businesses by providing independent oversight and thoughtful adjudication across a complex commercial credit portfolio. As the Senior Director, Commercial & Leveraged Finance, you’ll be part of a team responsible for adjudicating credit applications, monitoring portfolio exposure, and providing analysis and recommendations on escalated credit decisions with a focus on Canadian Commercial Leveraged Lending, Asset Based Lending, National Accounts, and Large Commercial Loans involving loan sizes above $50 million (collectively “Commercial & Leveraged Finance”). You’ll work closely within risk, operations, and our business partners to review new business deal flow, annual reviews, amendments, and periodic portfolio assessments, including associated derivative exposures and ancillary activities. You’ll help define policies, procedures, and tactical objectives that support sound credit decision-making and a strong risk culture. You’ll also provide clear, well-reasoned recommendations to senior leaders, identify emerging issues, and help ensure reporting and monitoring frameworks remain effective across credit platforms and operations groups. Additionally, you’ll be involved in special projects to help improve our team’s efficiency and use of data while meaningfully contributing to our client focused, purpose led team based culture of continuous improvement.
At CIBC we enable the work environment most optimal for you to thrive in your role. You'll have the flexibility to manage your work activities within a hybrid work arrangement where you'll spend 3 days per week on-site, while other days will be remote and this arrangement is subject to change.
How you'll succeed
Lead credit adjudication – Help lead the adjudication of the Commercial & Leveraged Finance portfolio, including new transactions, annual reviews, amendments, and periodic reviews of existing exposure. Provide balanced analysis and clear recommendations that support timely, well-informed credit decisions.
Build trusted partnerships - Develop strong working relationships with the business, within risk, and our operations partners. Provide practical guidance on credit-related matters, support strategic initiatives, and offer subject matter expertise to influence the development and implementation of policies and programs.
Monitor portfolio risk - Monitor economic, industry, and portfolio developments to identify emerging risks and adverse trends. Recommend mitigation strategies where appropriate and escalate issues promptly to ensure senior leaders are informed.
Apply sound judgment - Use CIBC’s credit policies, procedures, guidelines, and risk rating methodologies to assess transactions objectively and consistently. Ensure risks are properly identified, risk ratings remain accurate, and portfolio issues are communicated in a timely way.
Strengthen governance and reporting - Partner with the Wealth Relationship Management Analytics team and other stakeholders to maintain relevant reporting across credit platforms and operations groups. Contribute to risk reporting, governance controls, policy development, and special projects that strengthen portfolio oversight.
