RMIT Vietnam is seeking a Research Assistant to responsible for providing high-level research assistance for conducting literature searches, data management, recruiting participants, obtaining consent, maintaining files, scheduling and conducting interviews, maintaining data collection files, assisting with data analysis and generating correspondence, reports and graphics.

POSITION SUMMARY

RMIT Vietnam, as part of an international consortium led by CRAC-Vitae, are leading the Vietnam case study of a Wellcome Trust-funded research grant. This Research Assistant is responsible for providing high-level research assistance for conducting literature searches, data management, recruiting participants, obtaining consent, maintaining files, scheduling and conducting interviews, maintaining data collection files, assisting with data analysis and generating correspondence, reports and graphics. This includes demonstrating communication, accountability, flexibility/adaptability, judgment/problem solving, customer service and core values while fulfilling job duties. Under the direction of the Principal Investigator, the Research Assistant, will coordinate all matters relating to the delivery of the research project - Assessing the need and developing a framework for doctoral training in Vietnam.

Key Accountabilities Summary

Specific responsibilities will depend on ongoing negotiations with the funder and consortium lead, however, duties may include:

  • Assisting with the planning, ethics application, and reporting throughout the project.

  • Conducting literature reviews and landscaping analysis on doctoral training models, best practice, and unmet need, including reviewing and consolidating findings from prior reports.

  • Tracking evidence on equity barriers, skills frameworks, and interdisciplinarity in doctoral training

  • Leading all the data collection, analysis and write up under leadership of Project Principle Advisor. Ensure data collection, storage, and preliminary analysis align with established research protocols.

  • Conducting, record, and transcribe interviews in English or Vietnamese, providing translation when necessary.

  • Scheduling, organizing logistics, and note-taking for interviews/consultations with funders, institutions, and researchers involved with the project.

  • Transcribing and thematically coding qualitative data (interviews, surveys).

  • Ensuring a representative range of stakeholders and geographies are captured.

  • Assisting with qualitative research analysis (coding, theme extraction).

  • Supporting comparative analysis of funder/provider models internationally.

  • Maintaining a consistent evidence log mapped to the RFP’s 8 focus areas (need, core framework, equity, skills, interdisciplinarity, transition/retention, cross-sector partnerships, geographic feasibility)

  • Drafting sections of the inception report, draft/final report, and slide decks for presenting the findings.

  • Conducting quality assurance checks before deliverables go to Wellcome for review and flagging risks or delays to the project lead

  • Ensuring compliance with legislation, university policies, and procedures, including research ethics, equity, and health and safety.

  • Collaborating in research activities and coordinate efforts with the Line Manager and relevant stakeholders.

  • Other duties commensurate with the scope of the role.

Key Selection Criteria

  • Post-graduate degree (Masters or doctorate) in Arts, Science, Social Science or Business.

  • If English is not the first language, then evidence of IELTS score of minimum 6.5 during the last two years should be provided.

  • Demonstrated experience in research with proven experience in desktop research and data collection

  • Ability to use NVivo and SPSS is preferred.

  • Knowledge of literature review databases.

  • Ability to conduct analytical research, analyse, interpret, evaluate, coordinate as well as report resulting information.

  • Experience in preparing research reports and graphic presentations of data.

  • Problem-solving skills that assure detailed follow-up when required.

  • Well-developed planning and organizational skills with proven ability to prioritise multiple tasks, set and meet deadlines and give attention to detail.

  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office suite of applications.

  • Ability to work autonomously whilst displaying a strong commitment to work in a team environment, including the ability to confidently and effectively work with colleagues and cluster leads/members.

  • Demonstrated ability to meet deadlines and effectively manage varying workloads and respond to changing priorities as required.

  • Demonstrated high-level written and verbal communication skills.

  • Ability to display appropriate behaviours in line with the position, RMIT Values and RMIT Leadership Model.
