POSITION SUMMARY
Are you passionate about bringing people together and creating memorable community experiences? As a Recreation Specialist, you'll help promote exciting programs, events, and services that enrich the Los Altos community. You'll assist with planning and coordinating special events, develop engaging marketing and promotional materials, and implement creative outreach strategies to connect with residents and visitors. From behind-the-scenes event logistics to on-site event support, you'll play an important role in delivering high-quality recreation experiences. This position requires a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays, to support community events.

Assignment: The Los Altos Community Services department holds a variety of community events each year. This position is responsible for the creation and distribution of marketing materials across several channels to promote programs and events. Please create a promotional flyer for one of the topics below:
- Topic #1: Fun Run 5K
- Details: January 1st at 7:00am. Free, Downtown Los Altos
- Topic #2: Adult 50+ Trip to Aquarium
- Details: September 1st from 10am – 3pm. $50 registration, Monterey Bay Aquarium.

- Assists in the preparation, execution, and promotion of community-wide special events, including, but not limited to Family Fun Days, Spring Egg Hunt, Glorious 4th Independence Day Celebration, Summer Concerts, and more.
- Develops and implements marketing strategies to promote city of Los Altos Community Services programs, events, and services through various channels, including social media, flyers, and digital signage.
- Creates and updates content on the Community Services department website, ensuring event information, registration links, and content are current and accurate.
- Provides on-site support for events, including setup and breakdown, event logistics, ensuring event materials and signage are in place, and assists in addressing any issues that arise during the event to ensure a positive experience for attendees.
- Creates and manages content for the department’s social media platforms, website, and email newsletters to increase program awareness and participation.
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned.

EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATIONAny combination of training and experience that would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Experience
- At least 1 year of experience in program area preferably within a public sector or recreational setting.
- Experience working with the public and in customer service is desirable.
- Education
- Graduation from high school, or equivalent, is required.
- Licenses & Certifications
- Must possess a valid California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.
KNOWLEDGE OF:
Principles and practices of event planning, marketing, and promotion; basic graphic design principles and tools used to create promotional materials; social media platforms and strategies for engaging the community; some audio/visual equipment.
SKILL AND ABILITY TO:
Work independently and collaboratively as part of a team. Demonstrate strong organizational and time-management skills to handle multiple projects and priorities simultaneously. Deliver high-quality customer service in a variety of environments and with a positive and professional attitude.
