We’re hiring a Lodging Training & Standards Manager to Live. Work. Explore. at the south rim of the Grand Canyon!

 

Job Summary:

The Manager, Training & Standards – Lodging is an embedded training leader who works side-by-side with Lodging team members, ensuring all Lodging employees can confidently execute their roles before working independently and after established in the role, providing continuous and ongoing training for staff within Lodging. This position sits within the Lodging department and is responsible for the hands-on delivery and ongoing tracking of all training – from corporate programs to the site-specific knowledge, systems, and service standards unique to the location. This role monitors training completion, closes skills gaps in real time, and ensures every required program is documented, current, and compliant.

 

The Details:Position Type: Full-Time, Year-RoundPay: $47,736 per year

Schedule: Typical schedule is 40 hours, 5 days/per week (may include weekends, evenings, and holidays)

Housing: This position is eligible for a 1-bedroom apartment. The rent would be $352 per month (includes utilities), plus a $352 housing deposit. The person is responsible for paying for their own Wi-Fi.

Responsibilities

Core Responsibilities

  • Provide active, side-by-side training support to new hires and transferring employees across Lodging work units during onboarding and throughout the season.
  • Facilitate orientation and deliver position-specific training for all Lodging roles – Guest Service Agents, Guest Room Attendants, Porters, Bell Persons, and Night Auditors until employees can perform independently to standard.
  • Provide strong facilitation and coaching skills; comfortable working in live operational environments while training.
  • Deliver training across multiple formats (in-person, side-by-side, group sessions) and adapt to a wide range of learning styles.
  • Provide continuous and ongoing training to all staff within Lodging.
  • Facilitate required compliance training (e.g., Cash Handling and other required certifications) and corporate programs such as Workplace Essentials and Legendary Hospitality.
  • Co-facilitate property-wide New Employee Orientation and deliver refresher, corrective training, or other training as needed.
  • Track all training completions in the Learning Management System (LMS), ensuring records are accurate, timely, and audit-ready.
  • Monitor compliance training expiration dates and proactively schedule renewals to prevent lapses in required certifications.
  • Conduct regular audits of training records across Lodging work units, ensuring corporate-mandated timelines and completion requirements are met for every employee.
  • Conduct shift audits, bank audits, and Legendary Hospitality audits to ensure staff are consistently meeting standards.
  • Follow up with new hires and supervisors to confirm successful onboarding and skills transfer.
  • Work closely with the L&D Manager, Lodging Director, Lodging Assistant Director and outlets managers, to align training with company-wide programs, priorities, and schedules.
  • Participate in pre-season planning to prepare training materials and onboarding logistics for major arrival periods, and follow all Company and departmental safety and operational policies.

Location-Specific Responsibilities

  • Ensure all GCSR-specific Lodging standards – including Property Management System operations, room inspection standards, guest service sequences, safety protocols, and front desk procedures – are embedded into training and can be demonstrated by new team members.
  • Partner with Lodging leadership and subject matter experts to keep training content current, accurate, and reflective of how work is actually done, developing job aids and reference materials in partnership with L&D.
  • Identify gaps between how work is trained and how it is executed across Lodging work units, surfacing those gaps to Lodging leadership with recommended solutions.
  • This position will have a strong dotted line reporting relationship to the Manager, Learning & Development.

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

  • 3-5 years of hotel operations experience (front desk, housekeeping, or equivalent lodging work experience), which includes some management experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint).
  • Experience with Learning Management Systems; ability to accurately enter, track, and report training data.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and organizational ability.
  • Ability to work independently, manage competing priorities, follow through, initiate projects, and meet deadlines.
  • Valid driver’s license (or ability to obtain an Arizona driver’s license); compliance with company Driver Safety Program.
  • Willingness to work holidays, weekends, and flexible shifts to meet training demand.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Knowledge of Property Management System software, including OPERA.
  • Experience with Absorb LMS or similar systems.
  • Prior experience developing training materials, job aids, or position guides.
  • Knowledge of Xanterra or similar large-scale hospitality operator standards.

Physical Requirements include:

Frequently: Stand, walk, sit, handle, reach outward, lift/carry up to 10 lbs.

Occasionally: Reach above shoulders, climb, squat/kneel, bend, lift/carry up to 50 lbs., push/pull up to 40 lbs.
