CLOSING DATE: 11/16/26 at 1 PM Pacific Time The current vacancy is in the Public Works Department. THE POSITION: These are multi-divisional classifications, and the positions may be hired for different divisions in different departments. Engineer I: Under general supervision, performs entrance-level professional civil engineering work in connection with surveying, designing, construction, and maintenance of Public Works projects and surface water and groundwater projects; and performs other work as required. Engineer II: Under supervision, this class performs work of average difficulty involving technical and professional work making design layouts, engineering calculations, and miscellaneous studies in the City Engineering Department. |

Engineer I:
- Graduation from an accredited college with a degree in Engineering; OR
- Possession of a valid certificate as an Engineer in Training by the California State Board of Registration for Civil and Professional Engineers may be substituted for the required education. A copy of the EIT certificate must be turned in with the application by the filing deadline for the application to be accepted
Engineer II:
- Graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in civil engineering; AND
- Engineer in Training (EIT); AND
- Minimum one year experience in the practice of civil engineering; or possession of a valid Engineer-in-Training Certificate from the California State Board of Registration for Professional Engineers; AND
- Minimum two years’ experience in the practice of civil engineering
Both the I and II positions must meet the following:
- Possession of a valid Class “C” California driver’s license
In addition:
- A copy of the EIT certificate must be turned in with the application by the filing deadline in order for the application to be accepted
ORAL APPRAISAL INTERVIEW (Weighted 100%): week of November 30, 2026 (Tentative)
An appraisal will be made of the applicant’s experience, education, training, certification, knowledge, skills, abilities, and personal qualifications for the position. A minimum passing score of 70% is required.
NOTE: Admission to the Examination may be limited to those applicants who demonstrate the best combination of qualifications. Applicants possessing the minimum qualifications are not guaranteed admittance to the Examination.
