Description
LF Studios specializes in the design and fabrication of animatronic figures, sculpted elements, exhibits and interactive experiences. Our work can be found internationally in leading theme parks, museums, science centers, and branded spaces.
The Welder/Metal Fabricator is responsible for the building of mechanical and structural elements used in animatronics and metal structures. Team members are expected to follow designs, incorporate best practices and meet quality standards. Must have strong problem solving and communication skills to coordinate efforts within a larger team and process.
Essential duties and responsibilities:

- Fabricate metal armatures and mechanical assemblies by using MIG, TIG, and fasteners.
- Prep, Position, align, fit and weld materials.
- Set up and operate hand tools.
- Assemble off-the-shelf parts as designed (e.g. bearings, pneumatic cylinders, etc).
- Verify fabricated elements meet design specifications.
- Be familiar with the safe operating procedures of metalworking equipment and tools.
- Additional tasks as assigned.
- Basic understanding of powered mechanical systems.
Education and Experience:
- Expertise in the operation of basic metal shop tools - drill press, band and chop saws, grinders, torch, and basic hand tools. Machining is a plus.
- Able to pass welding certification tests for mild steel and stainless steel in FCAW-G and TIG (LF Studios to provide certifications).
- Minimum 3 years of experience fabricating mechanical components or systems.
- Valid Driver’s License.
- A clean work history.
- Ability to move quickly and safely from one task to another.
- Comfortable using Trigonometry and shop math to find dimensions needed.
