Summary of Job Duties:
The Business Intelligence Analyst / Developer designs, develops, and maintains reporting solutions, data products, and automated processes supporting Institutional Advancement’s Salesforce CRM environment. The position uses SQL, data modeling, ETL processes, Salesforce reporting, and business intelligence tools to transform institutional data into accurate, accessible, and actionable information.The position manages the full reporting lifecycle, including gathering requirements, preparing and validating data, developing reports and dashboards, delivering results, documenting business logic, and converting recurring requests into reusable or automated solutions. The individual works with technical and nontechnical stakeholders to translate business questions into reliable reporting products.
As reporting technologies continue to evolve, the position also designs, tests, and manages AI-assisted reporting and automation processes. This includes developing prompts and instructions, establishing business rules and human-review checkpoints, evaluating outputs, monitoring process performance, and identifying appropriate uses of emerging AI capabilities. The position ensures that reporting and AI-assisted processes protect sensitive data and comply with approved definitions, security requirements, and institutional standards.
The ideal candidate is a practical problem-solver who can work across the reporting stack, learn new technologies quickly, communicate clearly, and build sustainable solutions rather than one-time outputs.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, data analytics or related field plus two (2) years of experience in data analysis, database management, reporting development, or business intelligence, or
- High School diploma/GED plus six (6) years of experience in data analysis, database management, reporting development, or business intelligence required.
- Must have working experience in at least two or more of the following: SQL, Data Warehousing, Semantic Data Models, and/or Epic Clarity.
- At least one year of experience in a client-facing role providing technical solutions.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
- Proficiency in SQL and ETL tools.
- Experience with Salesforce CRM reporting and dashboard development.
- Working knowledge of data warehousing concepts and database structures.
- Familiarity with data integration processes and troubleshooting connectivity issues.
- Ability to translate business needs into technical solutions.
- Effective communication and collaboration skills to work with cross-functional teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Knowledge of automation, AI-assisted tools, prompt design, and process improvement methodologies.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, communication, and documentation skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
- Certifications in Salesforce, SQL, or data analytics are a plus.
- Knowledge of vector databases or graph databases is a bonus but not required.
Responsibilities:
- Design, develop, maintain, and optimize Salesforce reports, dashboards, datasets, queries, and related reporting solutions.
- Gather and clarify stakeholder requirements and translate business questions into accurate and understandable reports and data products.
- Define and document reporting logic, calculations, assumptions, data definitions, and source-to-report relationships.
- Maintain a standardized report library with appropriate naming, ownership, documentation, access controls, and retirement practices.
- Develop reusable data models, reporting components, and standardized datasets that reduce duplicated work and inconsistent reporting logic.
- Fulfill ad hoc and specialty reporting requests while identifying opportunities to convert recurring requests into standardized or self-service solutions.
- Design, configure, test, and monitor AI-assisted and automated processes supporting reporting intake, requirements gathering, data preparation, validation, analysis, narrative generation, delivery, and follow-up.
- Develop and maintain prompts, instructions, templates, business rules, structured outputs, evaluation criteria, and human-review checkpoints.
- Evaluate emerging AI, analytics, and automation capabilities for practical use within Salesforce and connected reporting systems.
- Monitor AI-assisted outputs for accuracy, consistency, security, bias, and compliance with approved business definitions and institutional requirements.
- Document the capabilities, limitations, dependencies, risks, and support requirements of AI-assisted processes.
- Train and support staff in the appropriate and responsible use of approved reporting, automation, and AI tools.
- Design, maintain, and troubleshoot data pipelines, integrations, APIs, scheduled processes, and data loads supporting Salesforce and enterprise reporting.
- Use SQL, ETL tools, and related technologies to extract, transform, reconcile, and validate data from multiple sources.
- Implement automated quality checks, exception reports, monitoring, and alerts to identify incomplete, inconsistent, duplicated, or anomalous data.
- Investigate and resolve reporting, integration, data-access, connectivity, and performance issues.
- Collaborate with system administrators, data owners, vendors, and institutional technology teams on data and integration projects.
- Support data governance, metadata management, privacy, security, retention, documentation, and change-control practices.
- Consult with end users to understand reporting needs and recommend appropriate reporting, analytical, or automated solutions.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
