Job Summary
The Laboratory Tech – Hematology Lead is responsible for providing leadership within the Hematology department, ensuring high-quality service, operational efficiency, and compliance with all applicable state and federal regulations, accreditation standards, and hospital and departmental policies.
This role provides advanced technical expertise to support efficient, accurate laboratory operations, including patient specimen processing and testing, quality control monitoring, instrumentation management, troubleshooting, and procedural guidance. The Hematology Lead serves as a resource to laboratory staff while helping maintain the highest standards of patient care and laboratory performance.
This position does not have discretionary authority regarding hiring, termination, or employee disciplinary actions.

Essential Job Duties:
- Assigns, completes, submits, reviews, and remediates proficiency tests in their
- department.
- Develops IQCP as needed.
- Creates and conducts competency testing in their specific area in accordance with Laboratory wide competency calendar and ensures staff complete them timely in Media Lab.
- Collects, reviews and submits monthly QM data.
- Orders supplies, keeping department appropriately stocked while minimizing out dates and waste.
- Keeps chemicals safely in accordance with the Chemical Exposure plan.
- Keeps the department CAP ready
- Maintains up to date policies and procedures in Media Lab.
- Does appropriate studies to bring new instruments, panels, or other items online.
- Ensures smooth day to day operations of the specific area working cooperatively with laboratory management to recommend staffing, equipment, and other resources needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements
Licenses & Education:
- Bachelor’s Degree or Associates Degree in medical laboratory technology, clinical laboratory, chemical, physical or biological science or have successfully passed the HEW CLT examination
- Registry with ASCP, HEW or AMT, preferred.
- CPR and basic first aid preferred.
