Medium Rare is Australia’s leading content agency, creating award-winning campaigns and brand worlds across print, digital, social, audio, events and out-of-home channels. We work with some of the country’s most recognisable brands, including Qantas, Coles, Bunnings, Flybys and the Australian Institute of Company Directors.
We are seeking an exceptional Creative Director to lead the visual creative direction of CommBank’s content ecosystem at Medium Rare. Centred around Brighter, CommBank’s flagship national customer magazine and content ecosystem, this role extends across digital content, commercial brand extensions and marketing campaigns. You’ll work in close partnership with the Content Director to translate editorial strategy and client objectives into visually compelling, brand-aligned creative, owning the full creative lifecycle from concept through to final delivery.
Key responsibilities
Lead the end-to-end creative direction of Brighter magazine, from concept development and editorial design through to print production and press approvals.
Art direct editorial and commercial photography shoots, developing briefs, mood boards and visual references, and managing external creative suppliers.
Oversee creative output across digital channels, including long-form video, social assets, animation storyboards, owned-channel assets and website content.
Drive commercial creative direction across branded content initiatives.
Design and review pitch decks, performance reports and stakeholder communications.
Serve as final creative approver prior to client presentation, ensuring brand consistency and creative excellence across all output.
Manage creative workflows, production schedules, supplier relationships and budgets across concurrent projects.
Provide direct leadership, mentoring and creative direction to the Digital Designer.
Identify and integrate emerging creative technologies and AI tools to enhance production efficiency and creative development.
Who are you?
Minimum 8+ years’ experience in creative direction, with a strong background in editorial, agency or branded content environments.
Advanced proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly InDesign, Photoshop and Illustrator.
Exceptional understanding of typography, layout, visual hierarchy and long-form publication design.
Proven experience producing and art directing editorial and commercial photography shoots from concept through to delivery.
Commercially minded, with the ability to balance editorial storytelling with client and business objectives.
Experienced in developing video storyboards and providing creative direction for video content.
Highly organised, with demonstrated ability to manage multiple concurrent projects, timelines, budgets and stakeholder expectations.
Working knowledge of image licensing, copyright, usage rights and contributor documentation requirements.
A collaborative and supportive leader who brings clarity, calm and creative rigour to a fast-paced team environment.
Curious about emerging technologies, with an openness to integrating AI tools into creative workflows where appropriate.
