Twin Disc is a global leader in power transmission technology serving marine, industrial, and energy markets around the world. Our Research & Development team in Racine, Wisconsin is seeking a hands-on, detail-oriented Research Technician to support product testing, validation, and development activities.
In this role, you will work closely with engineers to prepare, instrument, test, and evaluate prototype and production components. You will play a critical role in helping bring innovative drivetrain, transmission, and power transmission products from concept to reality.
What You'll Do
- Support engineers by setting up and conducting capability, performance, and durability testing.
- Prepare products and components for testing by installing sensors and instrumentation.
- Configure and operate test stands, hydraulic systems, pumps, and related equipment.
- Install, calibrate, and monitor data acquisition systems to collect test data.
- Analyze test setups and ensure testing is completed safely and according to specifications.
- Disassemble and inspect tested components, recording measurements and documenting results.
- Maintain test equipment, fixtures, instrumentation, and laboratory resources.
- Modify or fabricate test fixtures and assemblies as required.
- Assist in compiling test findings and technical reports.
- Occasionally support field testing or customer installations.
What We're Looking For
Required Qualifications
- Associate degree in Electronics, Mechanical Engineering Technology, Industrial Engineering Technology, or a related technical field; equivalent experience will be considered.
- Mechanical aptitude with experience working on transmissions, gear drives, hydraulic systems, engines, or similar equipment.
- Experience operating mechanical hand tools and precision measuring instruments such as micrometers, calipers, and gauges.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, schematics, diagrams, and test procedures.
- Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities independently.
- Effective written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience with data acquisition systems and instrumentation.
- Knowledge of hydraulics, pneumatics, plumbing, and basic electronics.
- Experience with SolidWorks, CAD software, or other 3D modeling tools.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, particularly Excel.
- Familiarity with Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) systems.
- Experience designing or modifying test fixtures and assembly tooling.
