The Academic Success Coach position at Jefferson University – East Falls Campus is a part-time, 18-hour per week position. This positionm is key to the Academic Success Center’s learning support team, working individually with Undergraduate, Graduate, and Adult and Online Learners. In addition to individual student sessions, this Coach position requires some program development and implementation, based on student needs and faculty requests. This Academic Success Coach serves as a professional learning support specialist, maintaining regular weekly coaching hours during the fall and spring semesters while providing individual coaching, facilitating workshops, and contributing to student success initiatives.Applicants to this position should have coaching or college-level teaching or coaching experience and/or extensive knowledge of time management and active study strategies to support the programs and courses taught at Jefferson University – East Falls Campus.
Job Description
Essential Functions
- Interacts with co-workers, visitors, and other staff consistent with the values of Jefferson.
- Coach students one-on-one and deliver workshops on academic success skills and habits. Workshops may include building calendars, metacognitive habits, active study strategies, and facilitating supported study spaces during assessment periods (Midterm and Final Exams)
- Collaborate extensively with the Academic Success Center’s full-time staff in program development and outreach across different student populations, including first-year undergraduate students on academic probation and new or advanced graduate students in the didactic phase or clinical rotations, etc.
- Work as a collaborative member of the Academic Success Center team on specific student retention and success initiatives, such as first-gen and neurodiverse students programming
- Administrative functions include collaboration on updating learning-support materials and coordinating learning-support-related events under the direction of the Academic Success team
- Log hours in a payroll system (My Time) and use an online tutoring scheduling/early alert system (Starfish) to track appointments, record tutoring outcome notes, and outreach to students identified as needing strategic academic intervention
Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required):
- Ability to work effectively with diverse undergraduate, graduate, adult, and online student populations.
- Knowledge of evidence-based learning strategies, metacognition, time management, and study skills.
- Ability to collaborate with faculty, staff, and campus partners, using strong organizational, planning, rapport-building, and program development skills
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements:
Education:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Education, Higher Education, or a related field, plus relevant professional coaching or student success credentials; OR
- Master's degree in Higher Education, Education, or a closely related field.
AND
- Experience: Two (2) years of experience providing academic coaching, advising, tutoring, teaching, or student success support in an educational setting preferred
Minimum Certifications, Registration or License Requirements:
- Certified Academic Coach or equivalent coaching certification required for Bachelor’s level applicants, preferred with Master’s
- Certified Tutor or CRLA-related training preferred
- Professional memberships related to academic coaching, student success, higher education, or advising preferred
Additional Information
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, Starfish, Canvas/other learning management or student success systems preferred.
- Availability to work occasional evening or weekend hours.
- Hybrid position requires at least one day per week in person.
