About Educato
Educato (YC S24) is building an AI-powered learning platform for the exams that shape people’s futures. We bring together personalized study plans, practice questions, mock exams, and AI tutoring to help learners understand difficult material and prepare with confidence.
We’re looking for a software engineer who wants to build products, not just complete tickets. You’ll work directly with the founders, own features from idea to production, and help decide what we should build next.
What you’ll do
- Own features end to end. Understand the user problem, shape the solution, build across the frontend and backend, ship it, and improve it based on real usage.
- Build AI-powered learning experiences. Work on personalized study journeys, AI tutoring, content-generation pipelines, and tools that turn learning materials into structured practice.
- Keep the product fast and reliable. Improve performance, data models, testing, and observability. Diagnose problems and fix their underlying causes.
- Make product and engineering decisions. Talk to users, challenge unnecessary complexity, and choose practical solutions that balance speed with long-term maintainability.
What we’re looking for
- You can build and ship. You have strong programming fundamentals and can show us software you’ve built, whether through work, personal projects, or open-source contributions.
- You take responsibility for outcomes. You can turn an ambiguous problem into a working solution without needing every step specified.
- You care about the user experience. You notice confusing interactions, rough edges, and unnecessary friction, and do something about them.
- You learn quickly and exercise good judgment. You’re comfortable working across a modern web stack and using AI tools, while understanding and taking responsibility for the code you ship.
Experience with TypeScript, Vue/Nuxt, PostgreSQL, and LLM APIs is useful. A perfect stack match matters less than your ability to learn and build well.
Why join
You’ll have direct input into the product, substantial technical ownership, and the opportunity to work on practical AI problems with a clear purpose: helping people learn. Your work won’t disappear into an internal backlog; you’ll be able to see how learners use it and where it makes a difference.
How we work
This is a demanding, hands-on role based entirely in our Bucharest office, not a remote or hybrid position. We work closely together, make decisions quickly, and expect people to take initiative and follow through.
How to apply
Send your CV or LinkedIn profile and one or two examples of things you’ve built. Tell us what you personally contributed, a difficult decision you made, and what you would improve today.
