Java Developer

Citi is looking for a Java Developer to join its technology organisation and play a hands-on role in building, enhancing, and integrating the applications that power financial services at global scale. In this intermediate-level position, you will design and deliver robust Java-based solutions across cloud-native environments, working across cross-functional teams to solve real engineering challenges. This is an opportunity to deepen your technical craft while contributing to systems that directly impact clients and internal stakeholders worldwide.

 

Responsibilities

• Design and develop Java applications, enhancements, and system integrations that meet clearly defined technical and business requirements.
• Build and maintain RESTful APIs using Spring frameworks, ensuring reliability, performance, and adherence to clean code principles.
• Deploy and manage application workloads on cloud platforms using OpenShift and Kubernetes, applying modern build tooling such as Gradle and Maven.
• Implement and support messaging and event-driven architectures using Kafka and MQ to enable scalable, real-time data flows.
• Develop and maintain CI/CD pipelines using Jenkins, and monitor application health and performance using Grafana.
• Analyse existing applications to identify vulnerabilities, conduct security testing, and implement effective debugging and resolution strategies.
• Collaborate with engineering teams, product owners, and end users to define system enhancements and recommend technically sound solutions.
• Support and mentor junior developers, sharing technical knowledge and contributing to a high-performing engineering team.

 

Required Qualifications & Skills

• Proficiency in Java development with practical experience building production-grade applications and RESTful APIs using Spring.
• Working knowledge of relational and non-relational databases, including Oracle, SQL, and MongoDB.
• Hands-on experience with cloud-native technologies including OpenShift, Kubernetes, and associated build and messaging tools.
• Familiarity with DevOps practices and tools, including Jenkins for pipeline automation and Grafana for observability and monitoring.
• Solid understanding of the software development lifecycle and Agile delivery methodologies.
• Clear written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to engage effectively across technical and non-technical teams.
• A Bachelor's degree or equivalent practical experience in a relevant field.
