Overview
The Merchandising Operations Manager supports merchandising efforts and ensures the effective day to-day operation of the Merchandising team. This role is responsible for managing team members, overseeing projects, and maintaining effective cross-departmental relationships.
The position manages employees through recruiting and hiring, workload oversight, timecard approval, performance reviews, coaching and development, and disciplinary action as appropriate.
The Merchandising Operations Manager also serves as the central escalation point across Product Coordination, Catalog and Promotional Content, and eCommerce/Web Support, while keeping the Director of Merchandising informed of team-wide priorities and risks. The role provides oversight across these functions without responsibility for their recurring execution work.

- A bachelor's degree in Merchandising, Marketing, or other relevant fields.
- 1-3 years of experience in merchandising, project management, or a related role, preferably within the multifamily or distribution industries.
- Prior people-management or team-lead experience.
- Proficiency with MS Office Applications (Word, Excel, Access), with expert Excel experience.
- Ability to coach, develop, and manage performance across a small team with varied functions (product coordination, catalog/content, eCommerce).
- Must be able to travel 4 to 6 times per year.
- Directly manage team, assign and balance workload, conduct performance reviews, approve timecards, and coach for development.
- Collaborate with other departments to ensure staff are knowledgeable about product lines, eCommerce systems, and industry trends.
- Foster strong relationships with internal teams, including Category Managers, Sales, International Purchasing, and Special Orders, ensuring smooth communication and collaboration on cross-departmental projects.
- Assist in overseeing merchandising projects, ensuring timely and budget-compliant completion of promotional materials (e.g., flyers, calendars) and digital campaigns.
- Track budgets and ensure projects are executed efficiently within financial constraints.
- Support the Sales team and other departments by communicating updates on new products, product changes, and merchandising initiatives.
- Identify and maintain item tax codes in line with Avalara standards to determine product and service taxability.
- Serve as the escalation point across Product Coordination, Catalog/Promotional Content, and eCommerce/Web Support, keeping the Director informed of team-wide priorities and risks.
