Job Description
The EH&S Supervisor works directly with all internal departments to ensure a safe environment for all by focusing on the creation and enforcement of safety protocols and policies. In addition, this position will have ownership of the outsourced safety and facilities based preventative maintenance/calibration processes and have direct leadership responsibility for the EnviroLogix Facilities team, currently consisting of two individuals
Safety & Compliance Operations
- Develop and implement comprehensive safety protocols, considering the specific risks associated with laboratory activities.
- Enforce safety policies including Lockout/Tagout, machine interlock, and machine guarding.
- Ensure compliance with local, state, and federal safety regulations across EnviroLogix.
- Conduct regular risk assessments of equipment, facilities, products, and processes to identify potential hazards and implement preventive measures.
- Maintain internal SDS reference library as well as kit/component SDSs for produced products.
- Manage SDSs for internal chemicals and other substances.
- Help identify ergonomic risks such as repetitive tasks, improper work area setup, and improper use of tools.
- Develop and maintain emergency response plans for various scenarios, including chemical spills, fires, and other laboratory incidents, in close collaboration with the facilities team.
- Ensure EnviroLogix maintains proper first responder capabilities.
- Conduct routine internal safety inspections to identify and rectify potential safety hazards.
- Conduct/manage external safety audits to ensure the laboratory meets and exceeds safety standards.
- Oversee the procurement, maintenance, and proper utilization of safety equipment, including PPE, emergency eyewashes, and showers.
- Investigate and report on incidents, accidents, and near misses, and implement corrective actions to prevent recurrence.
- Manage universal, hazardous, and biological waste in the facility and support transportation and records management.
- Ensure safety during 5S events and safety sustainment during 5S audits.
- Inform and advise management on matters and/or concerns regarding health, security, safety, and compliance.
Facilities
- The primary facilities function is to guide and enable the two highly capable facilities Technicians that EnviroLogix has. A successful candidate will be familiar with facilities functions but does not need to be a facilities expert.
- Maintain the Portland, ME EnviroLogix campus including all maintenance, repairs, upkeep and facilities upgrades
- Create a facilities project roadmap outlining the maintenance and upgrades required to operate our business and budget capital requirements accordingly
- Enable facilities investment by understanding and communicating the cost / benefit of the needs and getting buy-in and approval from all required stakeholders
- Manage all external facilities and maintenance contractors and contracts, including the quoting process and subsequent payment
Training & Continuous Improvement
- Provide safety training on proper procedures, equipment usage, emergency response, and the use of safety equipment.
- Deliver procedures and training for receiving and handling hazardous materials.
- Support ongoing improvement through safety sustainment practices and 5S compliance.
- Maintain accurate documentation and records related to safety protocols, inspections, and corrective actions.
Leadership & Talent Development
- Promote a culture of safety, quality, and delivery excellence across all operational functions.
- Lead with authenticity and empathy to build trust, open communication, and psychological safety.
- Develop and mentor high-performing teams, driving engagement, retention, and continuous learning.
- Execute performance management processes including goal setting, coaching, feedback, and development planning.
- Mentor and coach team members on safety awareness and best practices.
- Collaborate cross-functionally, with emphasis on leading the safety committee, to strengthen safety capabilities.
- Support talent development initiatives that build a resilient and informed workforce.
- This role will at times be expected to directly participate in the EnviroLogix production process. While not a primary responsibility, this is a standard expectation in the Operations team to support seasonality spikes.
Qualifications:
- Associate degree or higher preferably in Occupational Health and Safety
- Minimum of 5+ year experience in a Health and Safety and/or Facilities related position
- Safety certifications are a plus. Examples include Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CIH), and Safety Trained Supervisor (STS)

Physical Requirements:
- Ability to stand and sit for extended periods
- Ability to extend and reach with hands and arms; and use hands and fingers to handle, squeeze, twist and manipulate objects, controls and tools
- Ability to lift, move, and carry up to 60 pounds
- Ability to communicate verbally by phone and in person
The anticipated range for this position is: $85,000 - $105,000 per year. Salary is determined in good faith based on factors such as the applicant's education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, requirements of the position, internal equity, and alignment with market data.
