Description

The City of Lake Oswego is seeking a high-energy, detail-oriented and creative individual to contribute to the development and implementation of community events, including the Lake Oswego Farmers’ Market, Summer Concert Series and other events within the City. This position is represented by the Lake Oswego Municipal Employees’ Association/ American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees (AFSCME). 

  • Plans, organizes and implements the Lake Oswego Concerts Series and other City events, overseeing day to day operations to ensure smooth and efficient execution.
  • Serve as a professional, customer-focused point of contact for the public, community groups, volunteers, City staff and sponsors. 
  • Represents the Parks & Recreation Department and acts as a liaison between Parks & Recreation Divisions, City Departments, including Fire, Police, Traffic Engineering, Public Works and Public Affairs.
  • Develop and implement event marketing and promotional plans, including press releases, print and digital materials, website updates, and social media; coordinate with local media.
  • Assist with photography, video and graphics used for marketing of the Parks & Recreation Department.
  • Develop budget recommendations for assigned programs, tracking expenses and revenues. 
  • Ensure safe event operations including traffic and security management plans in coordination with the Police and Fire Departments. 
  • Leads and directs the work of part-time employees, vendors, contractors, and volunteers. 
  • Solicit new sponsorship opportunities with local businesses and maintain professional working relationships with current event sponsors. 
  • Prepare contracts, RFPs, correspondence, grant applications and other written materials. 
  • Ensure program evaluations are conducted and results are reported. This includes suggesting alternative improvements to programs. 
  • Procure and manage event equipment and supplies.
  • Assist with production of the Parks & Recreation Activity Guide which is publish three times annually with Winter/Spring, Summer and Fall editions. 

Recreation Specialist II -

At least four years of event management experience and a Bachelor’s degree in a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential duties of the job. 

The ideal candidate will be a strong leader and have a passion for the community. 

Successful candidates will be organized and have the skill set to balance numerous tasks and responsibilities for multiple events at one time. It’s also imperative that the recreation Specialist is an effective and collaborative communicator that is capable of creating positive professional relationships based on trust and accountability. This includes confidence interacting with the public.

Addition skills and abilities required: 

  • Calm and personable under pressure.
  • Ability to multi-task and creatively problem solve.
  • Proficient computer skills, including experience in Microsoft Works, Adobe, Excel, and Outlook. Some graphic design, media, photograph and video experience preferred.
  • CPR/First Aid Certified.
  • Must be willing and able to work weekend, evening and some holiday work scheduled shifts and to manage hours to not exceed a 40 hour work week. 
  • Physical and other requirements: Job is very active. Must be comfortable walking and carrying/lifting up to 30 pounds of force.
