Position Summary

The Career Development department is seeking a part-time, temporary student employee for the 2026/2027 academic year who is friendly, approachable, trustworthy, and detail-oriented with a career interest in career development and integration to assist our team on the CUW-Mequon, campus. Our Career Development Graduate Assistant Student Employee will perform special tasks and projects along with regular daily administrative tasks in support of and as a member of the team.


Job Duties & Responsibilities

  • Assist in orchestrating a distributed network of career champions, employer partners, faculty collaborators, alumni mentors, and student peer educators who collectively support career readiness at every touchpoint of the student journey
  • Assist with the development of a career readiness curriculum delivered through multiple channels (workshops, online modules, peer education, embedded courses, student communications)
  • Provides support to students by being knowledgeable in career/job search strategies and vocational development,
  • Assist with the creation of self-service career resources and digital tools accessible 24/7
  • Guides students in decision-making, assists students seeking information, and directs students to resources within the University that provide additional assistance,
  • Assesses when a student's situation requires referral to campus resources,
  • Documents communication with students through Navigate to provide transparency regarding interactions and direction provided to advisees,
  • Empowers students to be active responsible learners and assist them in making well-informed decisions,
  • Identifies campus activities, and programs opportunities related to students' major,
  • Maintains and ensure confidentiality of student records,
  • Provides expertise in resume and CV development, interviewing skills, application materials, and other needs relevant to the profession,
  • Utilizes skills inventories to assess student interests, aptitudes, and abilities and assist in the academic and career goal setting processes,
  • Helps students develop their knowledge of academic, career, and internship opportunities within their chosen academic field,
  • Collaborates with faculty to connect students with experiential learning opportunities which clarify their vocational aspirations,
  • Maintains awareness of market trends, demands, and outlooks for occupations relevant to assigned academic/vocational field,
  • Assist with the training of faculty to integrate career readiness into courses, assignments, and advising conversations, based on the NACE Competencies and theories of vocational development
  • Facilitates opportunities for students to link with alumni, employers, professional organizations,
  • Maintains a high standard of conscientious, courteous, enthusiastic, and professional service.
  • Co-supervise student employees to establish office coverage, provide training on job tasks, and ensure high quality work,
  • Provide logistical support for career and academic events, including but not limited to on-campus job fair, employer events, workshops, etiquette dinner, Falcon Days, Visit Days, etc.
  • Ensure accuracy of marketing materials, including by not limited to the website, flyers, business cards, etc.,
  • Collect and analyze data related to student retention, first destination data, career outcomes, experiential learning, etc.,
  • Provide customer service to students, families, employers, and other community members through phone, email, digital platforms, or in-person methods,
  • Provide regular maintenance to various career platforms, including Handshake, Focus2, etc.,
  • Attend staff meetings and events to actively engage with the team,
  • Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Strong work ethic; dependable, trustworthy, detail-oriented, and able to follow tasks and projects through to accurate completion with or without close supervision.
  • Ability to build rapport with students and communicate with empathy, professionalism, cultural awareness, and sound judgment.
  • Excellent written, verbal, customer service, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to work independently, collaborate with team members, and manage multiple responsibilities and deadlines.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, recognize when a student concern requires referral, and respond calmly and professionally.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft 365 applications, including Outlook, Word, and Excel; experience with or willingness to learn Navigate, Handshake, Focus2Career, Canvas, Banner, Qualtrics, and related technology.
  • Ability to learn and apply career development, vocational development, student development, and career-readiness concepts.
  • Ability to assist with events, move throughout campus event spaces, lift and carry routine office or event materials, and operate a computer, telephone, and virtual meeting technology.
  • Availability during Academic year (Fall/Spring) required; availability during the winter and summer breaks preferred.
  • Ability to work 20 hours per week is required.

Education & Experience

  • Bachelor's degree in a related field required
  • In pursuit of a Master's Degree at Concordia University Wisconsin
  • Enrollment in a Concordia University graduate education program required
