Senior Director, Strategy & Operations Lead
Location: Gothenburg, Sweden
Introduction to the role
A strategy and operations leader is sought to build structure, focus, and operational rigor across the EAI (Enterprise AI) Leadership Team. This global individual contributor role will connect strategy, performance, finance, workforce planning, communications and delivery across the AI for Operations portfolio.
The role will provide trusted strategic and operational support to the EAI leadership team, helping turn vision into coordinated action. The successful candidate will bring strong organization, attention to detail and consistent follow-through, ensuring priorities move forward and decisions lead to results.
The role will establish practical governance, improve reporting and help the leadership team manage priorities, risks and dependencies. It will suit someone who is proactive, comfortable with ambiguity and able to ask constructive questions, challenge effectively and keep complex work moving!
What this role will do
The role will support strategy and operations across AI for Operations, working with the EAI Strategy, Performance & Quality team and other stakeholders to translate priorities into plans, measures and actions.
Key responsibilities will include:
- Coordinating EAI Leadership Team meetings, including agendas, invitations, papers, decisions and action tracking.
- Supporting MTP, OKR and strategic planning, ensuring priorities, milestones and outcomes are clearly defined.
- Managing project and portfolio information, providing visibility of progress, risks, dependencies and resource pressures.
- Preparing senior-level reports, presentations and briefing materials using clear analysis and reliable data.
- Leading or supporting FinOps, RBU data, budgeting, forecasting and business reporting.
- Using data and benchmarking to identify performance improvements, simplify processes and inform investment decisions.
- Supporting AI for Operations initiatives and coordinating activity across teams, functions and external partners.
- Maintaining capability roadmaps and supporting reporting against EAI 2030 and AstraZeneca’s strategic priorities.
The role will help establish a consistent operating rhythm across the leadership team, ensuring meetings and reviews are purposeful, well prepared and followed by clear actions. It will also support communications, engagement and change activity across AI for Operations.
In partnership with Human Resources, Finance and relevant EAI leaders, the role will contribute to workforce planning, organisational development, outsourced service management and operational improvements.
Essential skills and experience
We are looking for experience in Strategy & Operations, Chief of Staff, Business Operations, portfolio management or a similar role. Experience of delivering a comparable role or operating model is particularly relevant.
The successful candidate will bring:
- Experience supporting senior leaders in a complex, global and matrixed organization.
- Strong organization and attention to detail, with the ability to manage multiple priorities and complete actions reliably.
- A self-directed and proactive approach, with confidence working through ambiguity.
- Strong stakeholder management, collaboration and communication skills.
- The ability to ask open, constructive questions and challenge assumptions effectively.
- Strong data analysis, financial management and FinOps capability.
- Experience with MTP, OKR and KPI planning, project and portfolio management, and executive reporting.
- The ability to prepare concise, high-quality presentations and materials for senior audiences.
- Experience in EAI, digital, data, AI or technology environments.
- Knowledge of Agile, lean or other transformation approaches.
- Experience working in a regulated environment, preferably healthcare, life sciences or pharmaceuticals.
Desirable skills and experience
Experience in enterprise AI transformation, responsible AI, data governance, AI operating models or technology-enabled business change would be useful.
Experience of managing outsourced service providers, external benchmarking, organizational development, employee engagement or sustainability initiatives would also be advantageous.
