Description

BeOne continues to grow at a rapid pace with challenging and exciting opportunities for experienced professionals. When considering candidates, we look for scientific and business professionals who are highly motivated, collaborative, and most importantly, share our passionate interest in fighting cancer.

General Description:

The Senior Director, Portfolio Strategy and Governance - Hematology serves as a strategic leader and governance partner for the Hematology therapeutic area, working across R&D, Commercial, Finance, Program Management, and executive leadership to enable high-quality portfolio strategy and decision-making. This role translates disease-area strategy, development plans, competitive context, investment considerations, and operational dependencies into clear governance discussions and decision-ready recommendations.

The incumbent manages the Hematology Development Review Committee (Heme DRC) process as a core R&D governance forum, ensuring that topics are appropriately shaped, materials are robust, decisions are clearly documented, and follow-up actions are tracked through completion. The Senior Director also leads hematology input into annual portfolio strategy review and prioritization processes, helping senior leaders evaluate strategic choices, trade-offs, risks, value drivers, and resource implications.

Essential Functions of the Job:

Hematology Portfolio Governance

  • Lead hematology portfolio governance for the Heme DRC and related senior forums by shaping agendas, working with Franchises, GPTs and DCTs in clarifying decision objectives, developing executive-ready materials, and ensuring discussions are decision-oriented and grounded in current scientific, clinical, competitive, operational, and financial context.
  • Manage and continuously improve the Heme DRC operating model, including topic intake, agenda management, pre-read quality control, meeting facilitation, decision documentation, offline endorsements, minutes, action-item tracking, and progress reporting.
  • Work with teams by providing clear processes in preparation for DRCs and executive governance forums, and for communication, escalation, and documentation to increase decision quality, transparency, and organizational follow-through.

Portfolio Strategy and Prioritization

  • Partner with R&D and Commercial executive leaders to frame strategic hematology portfolio choices, including development-pathway options, processes for PTRS and TPP, investment sequencing, lifecycle opportunities, differentiation, resource implications, and prioritization trade-offs.
  • Lead the hematology portion of the annual portfolio strategy review and portfolio prioritization process, ensuring discussions focus on strategic questions, disease-area priorities, cross-asset dependencies, value drivers, and investment or de-prioritization choices.
  • Apply external benchmarks, competitor intelligence, and industry context to assess hematology portfolio differentiation, productivity, value, and investment priorities.

Executive Alignment and Communication

  • Drive senior stakeholder alignment across Project Teams, Development and Franchise leadership, Commercial, Finance, Forecasting, Competitive Intelligence, Corporate Communications, Investor Relations, and Governance by identifying key decision points, risks, dependencies, and escalation needs.
  • Support Board-level, executive, and external portfolio updates by synthesizing program progress, portfolio performance, emerging risks, strategic decision needs, and hematology portfolio narratives.
  • Serve as a trusted strategic advisor to portfolio and governance leadership, bringing forward recommendations that improve decision quality and enable timely escalation of material issues.

Cross-Functional Partnership

  • Work closely with program management teams supporting hematology oncology drug development and product lifecycle management to ensure governance decisions are informed by accurate and comprehensive program information.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional partners to maintain a balanced view of scientific opportunity, operational feasibility, commercial potential, and portfolio value.
  • Lead process-improvement initiatives that optimize governance efficiency, decision quality, transparency, and organizational follow-through.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

  • No immediate supervisory responsibilities (with future potential)

Computer Skills:   Efficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook

Other Qualifications:

  • Hematology and oncology experience strongly preferred.
  • 5+ years in leadership roles within a multicultural, international, and matrixed portfolio environment.
  • Strong understanding of drug development, governance decision processes, portfolio prioritization, lifecycle planning, and cross-functional operating models.
  • Demonstrated ability to influence, advise, and align senior R&D and Commercial leaders around complex, ambiguous, and high-impact portfolio decisions.
  • Excellent executive communication skills, including the ability to translate complex scientific, clinical, commercial, and financial information into clear decision-ready narratives.
  • Proven ability to build trust, manage senior stakeholders, negotiate alignment, resolve conflict, and drive accountability across teams without direct authority.
  • Experience supporting senior governance forums, development review committees, stage-gate processes, or enterprise portfolio prioritization in a biotech or pharmaceutical organization.
  • Familiarity with oncology-specific value drivers, including lifecycle strategy, competitive differentiation, accelerated development pathways, biomarker-defined populations, and combination or platform strategies.
  • Strong process-management discipline, attention to governance logistics, and commitment to high-quality documentation, decision tracking, and follow-through.

Education Required:

  • Required: Bachelor’s degree in a scientific, business, or related field with 12+ years of experience in drug development, portfolio strategy, program management, commercial strategy, consulting, pharmaceutical, biotechnology, or related life sciences roles
  • Preferred: Advanced scientific degree, MBA, or equivalent experience preferred.
