Job Summary
Responsible for providing information and solutions to management and associates on logistics related inquires.
Major Tasks, Responsibilities and Key Accountabilities
- Assesses shipping requirements and uses tools available, including but not limited to the Transportation Management System (TMS), to assign a proper freight carrier to orders.
- Maintains communication with internal company personnel and/or vendor personnel, and freight carriers as required to ensure accuracy on all shipments.
- Ensures transportation efficiency and that all loads are shipped according to compliance regulations and within timeframe.
- Addresses any freight carrier performance issues to ensure prompt freight pick-up and delivery.
- Transmits invoice files to A/P for processing and payment; audits matches and discrepancy resolution.
- Participates in developing and supporting strategies for identifying, selecting, quantifying, and maintaining relationships with vendors.
- Conducts research and analysis and assists with freight-related data gathering, policy development, network designation and project prioritization activities.
- Generates monthly trending on productivity, cost, service, savings, benchmarking, compliance, roll-out schedules and carrier metrics.
Nature and Scope
- Demonstrates skill in data analysis techniques by resolving missing/incomplete information and inconsistencies/anomalies in more complex research/data.
- Nature of work requires increasing independence; receives guidance only on unusual, complex problems or issues. Work review typically involves periodic review of output by a supervisor and/or direct customers of the process.
- May provide general guidance/direction to or train junior level support or professional personnel.
Work Environment
- Located in a comfortable indoor area. Any unpleasant conditions would be infrequent and not objectionable.
- Most of the time is spent sitting in a comfortable position and there is frequent opportunity to move about. On rare occasions there may be a need to move or lift light articles.
- Typically requires overnight travel less than 5% of the time.
Education and Experience
- Typically requires BS/BA in a related discipline. Generally 2-5 years of experience in a related field OR MS/MA and generally 2-4 years of experience in a related field. Certification is required in some areas.
Preferred Qualifications
Preferred Qualifications
- 2+ years of experience in transportation, preferably in a distribution or manufacturing sector.
- Some experience with Less-Than-Truckload and Truckload freight
- Specialized skills training/certification may be required.
- Experience with TMS (MercuryGate TMS, JDA, LeanLogistics, Manhattan Associates) functionality and reporting (MercuryGate Edge).
- Experience with transportation management and 3rd party logistics providers. Experience in transportation markets, rates and capacities.
- Experience in freight audit and accounts payable.
- Good verbal and written communication skills, and basic computer skills.
This is a hybrid position. Eligible candidates residing in the greater Atlanta area will be asked to work two days a week in our Doraville, GA Field Support Center.
