Position Summary
Leads the Aftermarket Controls Engineering function responsible for designing, modifying, commissioning, and supporting control systems and power distribution systems for existing customer material handling solutions. Manages a team of controls engineers while directly contributing technical leadership on complex aftermarket modernization, upgrade, retrofit, and enhancement projects.Responsible for departmental staffing, resource planning, engineering quality, project execution, technical standards, and employee development. Partners closely with Aftermarket Sales, Applications Engineering, Software Engineering, Project Management, Field Services, and customers to deliver innovative controls solutions that maximize customer investment and operational performance.Provides strategic leadership while maintaining hands-on technical involvement in project design, execution, commissioning support, and continuous improvement initiatives.
Responsibilities
Essential Functions
- Manage a team of controls engineers, including recruiting, onboarding, training, mentoring, coaching, performance management, and career development.
- Assign engineering resources based on project priorities, workload, skills, and customer commitments.
- Develop departmental objectives, staffing plans, and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Monitor engineering productivity, quality, and project performance metrics.
- Conduct regular design reviews, process audits, and quality assurance checks.
- Foster a culture of accountability, innovation, collaboration, and customer focus.
- Support succession planning and professional development of team members.
Qualifications
Education and Experience Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Electrical Engineering, Controls Engineering, or related engineering discipline, or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Minimum 8 years of controls engineering experience in industrial automation, material handling, or related industries.
- Experience with material handling systems, ASRS systems, conveyor systems, and warehouse automation preferred.
- Experience leading customer-facing engineering projects.
- Experience developing and mentoring technical teams preferred.
- Must be able to speak, read and understand the English language
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Requirements
- Strong knowledge of industrial automation and control systems.
- Proficient in AutoCAD electrical design and documentation.
- Experience with Allen-Bradley, Mitsubishi, and Omron PLC platforms.
- Experience with HMI, SCADA, and industrial communication networks.
- Familiarity with QNX operating systems and material handling software architectures.
- Knowledge of electrical power distribution systems and industrial control panel design.
- Strong troubleshooting and commissioning capabilities.
