Yard Jockey Driver
Department: Production/Warehouse
Employment Type: Full Time
Location: Mechanicsburg, PA
Reporting To: Joshua Baluch
Compensation: $25.00 / hour
Description
Job Responsibilities
- Safely operate a yard truck (spotter truck) to move trailers and containers within the facility yard.
- Position trailers at loading docks according to warehouse schedules and operational priorities.
- Conduct pre-trip and post-trip inspections of yard trucks, trailers, and related equipment.
- Inspect trailers for visible damage and report issues immediately.
- Verify trailer and seal numbers when required.
- Maintain accurate trailer movement logs and yard inventory records.
- Coordinate with warehouse personnel, transportation teams, and supervisors regarding trailer availability and dock assignments.
- Monitor yard conditions and report safety hazards.
- Ensure proper trailer chocking, securing, and compliance with site safety requirements.
- Assist with trailer audits and yard checks to verify equipment location and status.
- Support peak operational activities and perform additional duties as assigned.
Secondary Functions:
- Assist with warehouse operations when yard activity permits.
- Support inventory and equipment tracking initiatives.
- Participate in continuous improvement and safety programs.
- Train new yard jockey employees as assigned.

- Overtime may be required at various times as well as working on holidays
Travel:
- Minimal travel required.
- Work is primarily performed within the facility yard and warehouse environment.
Job Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED equivalent.
- Valid driver's license.
- CDL Class A license.
- Ability to qualify for operation of company yard equipment.
- Forklift certification.
- Minimum 1 year of experience operating commercial vehicles, yard trucks, forklifts, or similar material-handling equipment.
- Experience in warehouse, distribution center, transportation, or logistics operations.
- Experience working within a high-volume shipping and receiving environment.
- Strong commitment to safety and compliance.
- Ability to operate yard equipment safely and efficiently.
- Excellent attention to detail.
- Strong communication and teamwork skills.
- Ability to prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.
- Basic computer and handheld device proficiency.
- Ability to read and understand shipping documentation and yard management instructions.
- Dependable attendance and punctuality.
- Ability to sit for extended periods while operating equipment.
- Ability to enter and exit yard trucks multiple times throughout a shift.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds occasionally.
- Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including heat, cold, rain, and wind.
- Ability to bend, climb, stoop, kneel, and walk throughout the yard as required.
- Ability to maintain visual awareness of equipment, pedestrians, and vehicle traffic.
