POSITION SUMMARY:
Tarkett is seeking a Jr. Quality Engineer - Materials to join the team in Dalton, GA. This role reports to the Director of Quality and is responsible for supporting the Quality and Operations Teams with Testing and Analysis of Incoming Materials, Process Improvements, and the interpretation of data. This position will work collaboratively with plants within the North American Soft Surface Division to ensure that quality products are delivered to our customers safely, on time, and at the lowest cost.
ESSESNTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Support improvement projects in data collection, time studies, audits, data mining, laboratory testing and/or focused data collection activities.
- Design and conduct quality assurance lab tests on incoming materials, intermediate process samples and finished product.
- Perform VOC analysis on raw materials and interpret data to determine disposition for usage.
- Develop understanding and expertise of material conversion processes within the various overall manufacturing processes.
- Develop linkages from raw material and other laboratory testing to the manufacturing processes and final product to establish process and product improvements.
- Leverage fundamental problem-solving tools/methodologies to improve processes and costs.
- Further develop, improve, and expand existing incoming quality processes.
- Perform supporting activities for quality and engineering including 5S and Lean manufacturing activities, material handling improvements, production line configuration, and safety procedures.
- Manage workload with a positive attitude as a team player in a collaborative work environment.
- Model safe behaviors and comply with safety and environmental policies and requirements.
- Support plant initiatives for WCM implementation and expansion.
- Perform various additional quality and laboratory functions as assigned.
REQUIREMENTS (including educational requirements)
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Chemistry, or related field preferred but not required.
- An Associate’s in a science-based area of study (Chemistry, etc.) is required if there is no Bachelor’s.
- Six Sigma experience is preferred but not required.
- Experience with GC / Mass Spectrometry is required.
- Able to read, write, interpret, and maintain Standard Operating Procedures.
- Able to multitask in both a laboratory and production environment.
- Must be flexible for 2nd shift hours of operation and potential weekend coverage, as required.
- Must be “hands on” to the laboratory, process, and the shop floor, understanding not just the data, but the physical “how” of manufacturing and testing
- Must be detail oriented and accountable for completing assignments in a timely manner with a high level of accuracy and professionalism.
- Must have the skills to develop and communicate succinctly summarized data analysis and project overviews.
- Team oriented, self-motivated and innovative.
- Excellent communication skills in a cross-functional environment.
- Willingness to work closely with production operators and “live” the processes for which this role is responsible.
