The City of Lee’s Summit is looking for a skilled Facilities Maintenance Worker II to join our Central Building Services team and help keep City buildings, equipment, and operations safe, functional, and running.

This isn't your typical desk job.

You'll be moving, building, fixing, repairing, troubleshooting—and occasionally asking yourself, “Who thought putting that there was a good idea?”

Pay range: $20.04-$25.63 per hour.

🔧 THE OPPORTUNITY

Under the general supervision of the Facilities Operations & Maintenance Manager, the Facilities Maintenance Worker II performs a variety of skilled maintenance, repair, remodeling, and construction activities throughout City facilities.

This is a hands-on position with plenty of variety and the opportunity to work on a wide range of municipal buildings, systems, and equipment.

WHAT YOUR DAY-TO-DAY MAY INCLUDE:

🔧 Assisting with troubleshooting and repairing electrical and HVAC systems.

🏗️ Supporting remodeling, renovation, and construction projects.

💡 Maintaining electrical equipment and building systems.

🔍 Diagnosing problems and finding the right solution.

🛠️ Performing preventive maintenance to keep equipment running and prevent bigger problems down the road.

🔩 Lubricating locks, bearings, and hinges and changing V-belts on motors and exhaust fans.

🤝 Working with City staff, contractors, and suppliers.

🏢 Helping keep City facilities safe, reliable, efficient, functional, and looking their best.

🧰 MORE THAN JUST FIXING THINGS

We're looking for someone who knows their way around a toolbox—and knows how to put their skills to work.

You should have:

  • Knowledge and skill in light plumbing, electrical, and HVAC.
  • Knowledge of construction trades, including framing, sheetrock, and painting.
  • Experience using hand tools and specialty maintenance tools.
  • The ability to read a tape measure without having to ask someone else how.
  • The ability to determine the correct size of lumber, pipe, conduit, nuts, bolts, screws, and other materials.
  • The ability to lubricate locks, bearings, and hinges.
  • The ability to change V-belts on motors and exhaust fans.
  • Good problem-solving skills.
  • A strong work ethic.
  • A willingness to learn.
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team.

🧰 THE TOOLS TO DO THE JOB RIGHT

You'll work with a wide variety of professional tools and equipment, including:

Scissor lifts • Plumbing tools • HVAC tools • Electrical tools • Carpentry tools • Saws • Nail guns • Skill saws • Table saws • Band saws • Sanders • Power washers • Sidewalk sweepers • Hand tools • Power tools

You'll also use computers, Microsoft Office, and other standard office equipment when the job requires it.

Because having the right tools matters—but knowing what to do with them matters even more.

📋 THE FINE PRINT

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Must be at least 18 years old at time of employment.
  • Three or more years of experience in two construction trades.
  • Must be a United States citizen or authorized alien worker.
  • Valid state Motor Vehicle Operator's License and acceptable driving record required.
  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.
