The Opportunity

A growing Pittsburgh-area manufacturer is seeking an experienced Production Planning Supervisor to coordinate production scheduling, material availability, inventory control, and warehouse material flow.

This is a highly visible position reporting to the Director of Operations with regular interaction with senior leadership. The Production Planning Supervisor will serve as a key link between Production, Warehouse, Purchasing, Sales, Customer Service, and Quality to ensure customer demand is translated into an accurate and executable production plan.

What You'll Do

  • Develop and maintain production schedules based on customer demand, forecasts, inventory targets, available capacity, labor, and material availability.
  • Coordinate production sequencing across manufacturing and packing operations to improve efficiency and minimize downtime and changeovers.
  • Adjust production schedules based on equipment downtime, material shortages, quality issues, production performance, and changing customer priorities.
  • Monitor execution against the production plan and identify capacity constraints, delays, and delivery risks.
  • Supervise the creation, release, accuracy, and closure of production work orders.
  • Ensure work orders contain accurate product information, quantities, bills of materials (BOMs), routings, and traceability requirements.
  • Maintain accurate ERP planning and master data, including lead times, BOMs, routings, and inventory parameters.
  • Ensure raw materials, packaging, and other production materials are available when needed.
  • Coordinate with Purchasing and Warehouse teams to identify and resolve material shortages and delays.
  • Maintain inventory accuracy and lot/batch traceability across raw materials, work-in-process, and finished goods.
  • Lead cycle counts and investigate inventory discrepancies through root-cause analysis and corrective action.
  • Coordinate warehouse activities, material staging, receiving, storage, transfers, and finished-goods movement based on production priorities.
  • Maintain proper FIFO practices and material-handling procedures.
  • Ensure ERP transactions accurately reflect production and inventory activity.
  • Partner with Quality regarding damaged, unidentified, or non-conforming materials.
  • Communicate production priorities, schedule changes, material constraints, and delivery risks across departments.
  • Work with Sales and Customer Service to align production priorities with customer requirements and realistic shipping commitments.
  • Supervise and coordinate warehouse and material-handling personnel.
  • Establish clear daily priorities and maintain accountability for safety, inventory accuracy, material availability, and process compliance.
  • Analyze differences between planned and actual production results and support continuous-improvement efforts.

What We're Looking For

  • 2+ years of relevant production planning, materials planning, production control, inventory, or manufacturing operations experience.
  • Previous supervisory or team leadership experience in a manufacturing, warehouse, materials, or related environment.
  • Experience developing and maintaining production schedules.
  • Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and production work orders.
  • Experience working with BOMs, routings, inventory records, and production-related master data.
  • Experience coordinating raw materials, WIP, finished goods, and production material flow.
  • Understanding of inventory control, cycle counting, and discrepancy resolution.
  • Ability to coordinate effectively with Production, Purchasing, Warehouse, Quality, Sales, and Customer Service.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage changing priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience supervising warehouse or material-handling employees.
  • Experience supporting extrusion, packaging, or similar manufacturing operations.
  • Experience with lot/batch traceability and FIFO inventory practices.
  • Continuous-improvement and root-cause analysis experience.
  • Spanish language skills are a plus.
