Company Description

Our client is a rapidly growing healthcare technology startup building an AI operating system for outpatient care.

The company is developing an AI-native care delivery platform that enables medical practices to extend their capacity beyond traditional in-person visits. The platform is designed to address critical gaps in outpatient care by supporting patients between visits and helping healthcare organizations deliver more continuous, accessible care.

The company operates at the intersection of applied AI and healthcare delivery, tackling complex problems that require significant technical experimentation, rapid iteration, and strong product engineering judgment.

Backed by leading venture investors, the company has raised approximately $4.4M in seed funding and is experiencing significant customer demand. Contracted revenue is growing faster than the engineering team can currently build, making engineering a critical lever for the company's growth.

The engineering team is intentionally small and highly autonomous. This role would join as an early engineer, working directly with the CTO and owning entire product surfaces from product definition through design, implementation, and deployment.

Engineers are expected to operate as their own PM, designer, and engineer — identifying what needs to be built, making product and UX decisions, and shipping production software with minimal process or oversight.

This is a 0-to-1 engineering environment where individual contributors have unusually broad ownership and direct impact on the product and business.

What You Will Do

End-to-End Product Engineering

• Own features and product surfaces from initial problem definition through design, implementation, deployment, and iteration.
• Act as your own product manager by identifying requirements, defining solutions, and determining priorities.
• Make UX and product decisions alongside technical architecture decisions.
• Build, ship, and iterate on production features quickly based on customer and business needs.
• Take ownership of entire areas of the product rather than working on narrowly scoped tickets.
• Balance product quality, engineering speed, and customer impact in a fast-moving environment.

Backend Engineering & AI Systems

• Build and scale core backend systems powering an AI-enabled healthcare platform.
• Develop production software using Python and modern backend engineering practices.
• Work on AI/ML-powered product capabilities and integrate intelligent systems into healthcare workflows.
• Design APIs, services, data models, and system architectures for a rapidly growing platform.
• Build reliable systems capable of supporting increasing customer and patient demand.
• Work across application and infrastructure layers as needed to deliver complete product functionality.

0-to-1 Product Development

• Take ambiguous problems and turn them into concrete technical and product solutions.
• Work closely with the CTO to architect and deliver new product capabilities.
• Rapidly prototype, test, learn, and iterate on new ideas.
• Build features that may require technical research and experimentation before becoming production-ready.
• Identify opportunities to use AI tools and automation to increase engineering velocity.
• Continuously improve existing systems as customer requirements and product needs evolve.

Product Ownership & Business Impact

• Work directly with leadership to prioritize engineering efforts against business goals.
• Understand customer needs and translate them into practical product solutions.
• Make independent decisions about technical implementation, product scope, and tradeoffs.
• Own outcomes rather than simply completing assigned engineering tasks.
• Help determine what should be built next based on customer demand and business impact.
• Contribute to the evolution of the engineering organization as the company scales.

Ideal Candidate Background

Experience Requirements

• 1–3 years of professional software engineering experience.
• Strong software engineering fundamentals despite relatively early career stage.
• Experience building and shipping production software.
• Strong backend engineering experience.
• Experience working in a startup, early-stage company, or highly autonomous engineering environment is strongly preferred.
• Demonstrated ability to take ownership beyond assigned tickets.
• Experience working on ambiguous technical problems.
• Evidence of rapid career growth, increasing scope, or exceptional ownership.
• Comfortable working directly with senior technical leadership.
• Experience working in 0-to-1 or rapidly evolving product environments is a strong plus.
