Description
On behalf of our client, we're looking for a Tech Lead in Cloud and DevOps to lead a small team and own client engagements end to end, setting the technical direction, delivering the hard parts personally, and being the authority in the room on cloud. It's roughly a 60/40 split between engineering and leading: this is a lead who still builds. You will be joining our client's team of professionals in Nicosia, Cyprus.
About the role:
You'll be the trusted technical voice with clients, often the most cloud-literate person in the conversation, including with C-suite stakeholders. The company is brought in precisely because the client doesn't have that depth, so you'll explain, recommend and decide rather than be given what is required. If you're used to a more senior architect signing off your decisions, this won't suit; if you enjoy carrying the decision, it will.
About the company:
Our client builds, secures and operates cloud platforms for enterprise and regulated organisations across banking, telecoms and healthcare, as well as fast-growing scale-ups. They're a profitable, engineering-led business that's growing quickly, with partnerships including AWS (Advanced Tier), Cloudflare (Powered+), Elastic and Microsoft.
What you'll do:
- Lead a small team of engineers (currently two to three and growing): planning work, reviewing it, unblocking people, and being accountable for what the team delivers
- Own delivery on one or two engagements at a time, accountable for the technical outcome rather than just your own tickets
- Set the architecture and standards: how accounts, modules, pipelines and monitoring are structured, and hold the line on them across the team
- Stay hands-on, delivering the hard parts personally (roughly a 60/40 split between engineering and leading)
- Act as the trusted technical voice with clients, including with C-suite stakeholders
- Support presales: sizing work, sanity-checking scope before it becomes a fixed-price commitment, and inputting to statements of work, getting this right protects margin
- Mentor mid-level engineers, review their work, and help shape the engineering ladder as the team grows
- Occasional travel to Greece and to partner or industry events
What you'll bring:
- 7+ years in infrastructure or platform engineering, with significant AWS depth or Azure
- Personally designed and delivered at least one substantial cloud build: landing zone, large migration, multi-account setup, DR architecture or equivalent
- Terraform at architecture level: module design, multi-account and multi-environment structure, and standards you set for others
- Kubernetes or ECS in production, plus CI/CD design
- Proven client-facing delivery: running a workshop, presenting and defending a design to technical and executive stakeholders, and handling a difficult conversation about scope or an incident
- Experience leading a small team of two to five engineers: allocating and reviewing work, setting standards, and being accountable for what the team ships
- Coding ability in Python, Go or TypeScript
- Fluent in English both written and spoken
- Based in Nicosia (preferred)
Nice to have:
- Greek speaking, relevant at lead level, given the client and partner contact
- AWS Professional or Specialty certifications, or the Azure equivalent
- A consultancy, MSP or systems-integration background rather than a single in-house platform
- Regulated-sector experience (banking, healthcare, telco) and familiarity with what an auditor or security review asks for
- Security depth: identity, network segmentation, secrets, posture management
- Experience contributing to scoping, estimation or proposals
What is on offer:
- €45,000–€60,000 gross per year based on experience, plus performance bonus
- Hybrid working, no after-hours, weekend or night shifts
- Extra paid leave, including the week between Christmas and New Year
