Facilities Maintenance Worker I/II

Facilities Maintenance Worker I- $24.41 - $29.97
Facilities Maintenance Worker II - $26.96 - $33.09

• Longevity Pay - beginning at 10 years of service, 5%; 15 years of service, 7.5%.
• Bilingual Pay - $100 per month.
• Medical-in-lieu - Employees who waive the City's medical coverage shall receive $200 per month for employee only, $350 per month for employee plus one, and $500 per month for family. 
• Incentives - up to 2.5% - 10%
• On Call Pay - Two hours per day and four hours per holiday.
• Standby Pay - Two hours for each standby shift of 8 hours or less.

• Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled activities including painting, carpentry, electrical repair, plumbing, welding, and other maintenance work as directed.
• Performs safety inspections of City buildings and facilities; oversees various other safety functions for City buildings.
• Reads and interprets technical manuals, sketches, diagrams, and blueprints to facilitate installation, servicing, repair, and replacement services and activities.
• Responds to customer complaints and inquiries regarding facilities and buildings.
• Prepares procedures and maintenance manuals for City building mechanical; electrical; and heating, ventilation, and (HVAC) systems.
• Assists with preparing scopes of work, soliciting cost proposals.

Facilities Maintenance Worker I & II:

• Possession of a valid Class C California driver’s license and have a satisfactory driving record.

Licenses and certificates listed below are desirable, but not required at the time of appointment. However, at the discretion of the City and depending upon business necessity, certain persons in this class may be required to obtain any of the below listed licenses, certificates, or specialized education and training within a specified timeframe.

• Possession of valid Class B California driver’s license with airbrakes and tanker endorsements and satisfactory driving record.
• Possession of Contractor’s License (General).
• Possession of Contractor’s License (Specialty).
• Possession of HVAC Technician Certification.
• Possession of Refrigeration Certification (EPA Section 608 Type II or universal).
• Possession of Plumbing Certification.
• Possession of Certified Building Inspector (Residential or Commercial).
• Possession of Drone Pilot Certification.
• Possession of Detention Equipment Technology & Maintenance Certification.
• Possession of Electrical Technologies Certification (required for level II, see below).

Facilities Maintenance Worker II:

• Obtain Electrical Technologies Certification within the probationary period.

Licenses and certificates listed below are desirable, but not required at the time of appointment. However, at the discretion of the City and depending upon business necessity, certain persons in this class may be required to obtain any of the below listed licenses, certificates, or specialized education and training within a specified timeframe

• Possession of Facility Management Professional (FMP) Certification.
• Possession of any of the additional Certifications listed above, other than the one required.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Must possess mobility to work in the field; strength, stamina, and mobility to perform physical work, to work in confined spaces and around machines, to climb and descend ladders, to operate varied hand and power tools and construction equipment, and to operate a motor vehicle and visit various City sites; vision to read printed material and a computer screen; and hearing and speech to communicate in person and over the telephone or radio. The job involves fieldwork requiring frequent walking in operational areas to identify problems or hazards. Finger dexterity is needed to access, enter, and retrieve data using a computer keyboard or calculator and to operate above- mentioned tools and equipment. Positions in this classification bend, stoop, kneel, reach, and climb to perform work and inspect work sites. Employees must possess the ability to lift, carry, push, and pull materials and objects weighing up to 100 pounds, or heavier weights with the use of proper equipment.

EVIRONMENTAL ELEMENTS
Employees work in the field and are exposed to loud noise levels, cold and hot temperatures, inclement weather conditions, road hazards, vibration, confining workspaces, chemicals, mechanical and/or electrical hazards, and hazardous physical substances and fumes. Employees may interact with upset staff and/or public and private representatives, and contractors in interpreting and enforcing departmental policies and procedures. Must be willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions with exposure to traffic and potentially hazardous chemicals.

WORKING CONDITIONS
Must be able to pass a pre-employment physical, drug screen, and background investigation, including fingerprinting. Must be available for shift work, standby assignments, and work emergency overtime as required.
