Job Description

Department: Communication and Creative Services

General Statement of Job

The Videographer assists the Video Production Coordinator with developing, producing, directing, shooting, and editing high-quality, short and long form productions for distribution on the College news center, YouTube, web, and social media platforms.

Specific Duties and Responsibilities

Essential Functions:

  • Assists the Video Production Coordinator with developing, producing, directing, shooting, and editing high-quality, short and long form productions such as commercials, program profile videos, educational stories and vignettes, and interviews for distribution on the College news center, YouTube, web, and social media platforms.
  • Assists with production plans (including but not limited to creating call sheets, shotlists, general schedules, and procuring equipment) for various projects.
  • Coordinates and performs duties of camera operator, audio/lighting technician, grip as needed to ensure production quality on shoots.
  • Backs up and organizes all production footage.
  • Attends meetings and offers expertise in development and production on the video project requests.
  • Conducts interviews with students, staff, faculty, alumni and campus visitors and ensures that valuable sound bites are captured.
  • Assists with cataloging all video and photographic footage.
  • Designs, transports, sets up, and operates production equipment, including audio and lighting equipment, for field and studio productions.
  • Assists with maintaining all equipment in proper working order including troubleshooting and minor repairs as necessary.
  • Keeps abreast of current trends in video production.
  • Travels throughout the college district, as needed.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education and Experience

  • Associate’s degree in Marketing, Communication, Graphic Design, Video Production, or related field required; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
  • At least two (2) years of experience in professional video production required.

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong computer skills with knowledge of Microsoft Office including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook, the Windows environment, and internet research skills.
  • Ability to design, write and edit for a public audience.
  • Knowledge of photographic and video production workflow, principles and techniques.
  • Knowledge of digital Sony camcorder and mirrorless camera systems; experience with Sony FS700 and FS5 Mark 2 a plus.
  • Understanding of and technical ability with field/on location audio recording and lighting.
  • General sense of authentic narrative visual storytelling for various projects.
  • Knowledge of broadcast and social media platforms and various specs required for content.
  • Ability to prioritize, organize, and complete multiple tasks with attention to detail, within stated deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently as well as a team player within department and with others.
  • Ability to work evenings and/or weekends as needed; willing to travel throughout the college district using own means of reliable transportation.
  • Demonstrated commitment to achieving the vision and mission of South Texas College.
  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, professional journals, and learn new technological skills.
  • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and professional articles for the public.
  • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, employees, and the general public.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Checks, Certificates, Licenses, and Registrations

Physical Requirements

  • Exerting up to 25 pounds of force occasionally and/or negligible amount of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.

  • Bending the body downward and forward by bending leg and spine.

  • Bending legs at knee to come to a rest on knee or knees.
  • Raising objects from a lower to a higher position or moving objects horizontally from position-to-position. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires substantial use of upper extremities and back muscles.
  • Substantial movements (motions) of the wrist, hands, and/or fingers.
  • Ability to make rational decisions through sound logic and deductive processes.
  • Expressing or exchanging ideas by means of the spoken word including the ability to convey detailed or important spoken instructions to other workers accurately, loudly, or quickly .
  • Sitting particularly for sustained periods of time.
  • Bending body downward and forward by bending spine at the waist. Occurs to a considerable degree and requires full motion of the lower extremities and back muscles.
  • Close visual acuity to perform an activity such as: preparing and analyzing data and figures; transcribing; viewing a computer terminal; and/or extensive reading, including color, depth perception, and field vision.
  • Visual acuity to determine the accuracy, neatness, and thoroughness of the work assigned or to make general observations of facilities or structures.
  • Mobility to accomplish tasks, particularly for long distances or moving from one work site to another.
