Job Description
As a technical writer at Guidewire, you will use your ability to grasp technical concepts to design structured, reusable knowledge with product teams and convert developer-speak into information that speaks to the user. You’ll collaborate with cross-functional teams to create clear, accurate, and engaging documentation and knowledge assets for our cloud products and AI assistants.
Expect to work in a fast-changing, flexible environment where cross-geo collaboration is key. To succeed in this role, you must have excellent communication and technical skills, a hands-on, self-motivated approach, and openness to constructive feedback.
Key responsibilities
- Work closely with developers, product managers, and user experience designers to understand our products and target audiences.
- Plan and design targeted, AI-ready information experiences for our business and technical users in short release cycles.
- Create and maintain technical content for our platform, services, user interfaces, and APIs, optimized for reuse across deliverables and channels.
- Model and maintain content structures, taxonomies, and metadata that help humans and AI assistants find and understand information easily.
- Use data from analytics, search logs, chat transcripts, feedback, and product usage to identify information gaps and prioritize improvements with the highest impact on user and AI assistant success.
- Actively seek and incorporate constructive feedback from peers, leads, and cross-functional stakeholders to iterate on and improve documentation and knowledge quality. Independently apply AI-ready content practices and actively contribute to improving AI workflows through direct experimentation and collaboration.
Required skills and experience
- 5+ years of experience creating content for enterprise software applications. Excellent writing and communication skills.
- High technical aptitude to understand and document complex solutions.
- Ability to adapt or write code samples to illustrate how a feature works.
- Knowledge of content development principles and practices, including information architecture, modular structured content, metadata, and information delivery. Understanding of web applications and cloud platforms, such as AWS and Azure. Ability to get information from subject matter experts, analyze data from usage and feedback, and learn by experimenting with products and tools.
- A collaborative mindset with a strong openness to feedback and a desire for continuous improvement.
- Experience or passion in using AI tools for content development and delivery. Comfort working with core AI concepts such as prompts, grounding content, retrieval, and evaluation criteria. You do not need to be a data scientist, but you understand how AI systems use and retrieve content, and write accordingly.
- Willingness to work in a distributed global team environment.
Preferably, you also have some of the following:
- Good understanding of structured authoring and markup languages such as DITA and Markdown in a docs-as-code system.
- Experience working in Git/GitHub.
- Experience working in an Agile environment.
- Experience with static site generators such as Docusaurus is a plus.
- Experience designing content models, taxonomies, or ontologies for technical content. Experience working with documentation or knowledge that feeds AI assistants, chatbots, or advanced search.
