Peer Recovery Specialist | Mental Health

Description

CSPNJ, a mental health nonprofit agency is looking for a full-time Peer Recovery Specialist.  The Peer Recovery Specialist works directly with the Center Manager and collaboratively with Wellness Mentors and members to support the planning, coordination, and implementation of Wellness Center operations. This position promotes a welcoming, recovery-oriented environment by engaging members, supporting their individual wellness and recovery goals, and helping to identify and address community needs.  

MUST have their Peer Certification!

HIGHLIGHTS:

• Serve as a positive role model and mentor, empowering members to self-advocate, make informed decisions, and coordinate their own services and supports.
• Assist members in identifying and pursuing individualized recovery and wellness goals through one-on-one and group interactions.
• Provide information and referrals to members related to wellness, recovery, peer support, and community-based resources and services.
• Assist in developing, strengthening, and expanding community-based services, resources, and partnerships that support member needs and recovery.

Requirements

• MUST have their Peer Certification! 
• High School diploma or GED equivalent.
• Excellent organizational, time management, and follow-through skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to establish and maintain positive, respectful relationships.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills. 
• Proficient in MS Office products as well as general computer literacy.
• Knowledge of wellness, recovery, the mental health system, and community-based resources.
• Ability to develop and maintain positive relationships with individuals who receive or have received mental health and/or substance use services.
• Ability to promote self-advocacy, independence, empowerment, and recovery-oriented practices. 
• Willingness to appropriately share personal experiences with mental health and/or substance use services and speak openly about aspects of their recovery journey, as appropriate to the role.
• Ability to work with individuals experiencing mental health and/or substance use challenges in a caring, respectful, and professional manner.
• Ability to effectively communicate and relate to a diverse population in a multicultural environment.
• Proven ability to engage and support individuals with mental health diagnoses using empathy, professionalism, and trauma-informed practices.
• Bilingual skills are a plus.
• MUST valid NJ Driver’s License with acceptable driving record!
