ABOUT THE ROLE
Ferguson Electric’s Safety Professional, reporting to the Director of Safety, will lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of Ferguson Electric’s safety program to ensure safe operations across all projects and company activities. This role focuses on fostering a proactive culture of safety, overseeing field inspections and training initiatives, and driving compliance with federal, state, county, and local safety regulations all while strongly upholding and promoting the organization's core values.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
Safety Program Leadership:
o Lead the development, implementation, and enforcement of company safety policies, procedures, and programs in collaboration with the Director of Safety.
o Oversee the maintenance and enhancement of the safety management system, including updating safety manuals, documents, and customer portals.
o Establish, track, and report on safety goals, objectives, and key performance indicators to senior leadership.
Field Safety Oversight:
o Direct regular site inspections to ensure compliance with safety standards, identify potential hazards, and recommend corrective measures.
o Guide project managers and field teams in developing and implementing project-specific safety plans and procedures.
o Supervise the proper use, maintenance, and procurement of personal protective equipment (PPE) on job sites.
Training and Education:
o Develop and deliver comprehensive safety training programs for employees, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
o Mentor field staff on OSHA standards, company safety policies, and industry best practices. ·
o Lead awareness initiatives through toolbox talks, safety briefings, and ongoing education campaigns. ·
Compliance and Documentation:
o Ensure full compliance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) standards and other applicable regulations.
o Oversee the maintenance of accurate records for safety inspections, incidents, and training sessions.
o Prepare and review project-specific safety plans, reports, and documentation for clients and regulatory agencies.
Incident Response and Investigation:
o Lead investigations of workplace incidents, near-misses, and accidents, determining root causes and implementing corrective actions.
o Document incident reports and communicate findings to the Director of Safety, senior leadership, and relevant stakeholders.
Collaboration:
o Partners with project managers, field crews, and subcontractors to cultivate a culture of safety and accountability.
o Coordinate with the Director of Safety and cross-functional teams to address safety concerns and drive continuous improvements.
o Communicate effectively with internal teams and external partners to align safety objectives and best practices.
Requirements
ABOUT YOUR QUALIFICATIONS
- Education and Experience:
- Associate’s degree in Occupational Health and Safety, Environmental Health, or a related field; Bachelor’s degree preferred.
- 5+ years of occupational health and safety experience, preferably in the construction or electrical contracting industry with at least 2 years in a leadership role.
- OSHA 10 or 30-hour certification in Construction Safety is highly desirable.
- Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook) and familiarity with safety management software or systems.
- Basic knowledge of asset management/work order systems or GIS applications is a plus.
- Soft Skills:
- Strong communication skills, both oral and written, to engage with employees, subcontractors, and management.
- Excellent organizational and time management skills to handle multiple tasks and priorities.
- Ability to work collaboratively in a team environment and build rapport with diverse stakeholders.
- Proactive problem-solving skills with a focus on attention to detail and accountability.
- Other Requirements:
- Working knowledge of OSHA standards and construction safety practices.
- Ability to conduct field inspections and training sessions in various work environments.
- Willingness to travel to job sites as needed.
