This posting is for Summer 2027 Internship opportunities.
IMEG is hiring a Sustainability & Energy Engineering Intern in Naperville, IL. Over the course of 10 to 12 weeks, you will work closely with experienced engineers and consultants on engineering analysis and the implementation of sustainability and energy efficiency measures in buildings.
In this role, you will support sustainable design through energy modeling, daylight analysis, carbon analysis, life cycle cost analysis, LEED, WELL, PHIUS, and Green Globes certification support and administration, and CFD analysis. You will also collaborate with cross-functional teams and work within project budgets to help meet project goals and client expectations.

What You'll Do
Assist with sustainable design practices across the company.
Assist with building performance analyses on projects.
Support green building certification efforts, including energy modeling, documentation, and certification coordination for the project team.
Coordinate design information from architectural, structural, electrical, mechanical, technology, clerical, and equipment-supplier sources to inform energy models.
Assist in identifying building and campus decarbonization strategies, including solar photovoltaic assessments and calculations.
Assist in making sustainable design recommendations and design decisions with support from senior staff.
Research code requirements for energy-efficient design, including LEED, IECC, and ASHRAE 90.1.
Assist with the preparation and issuance of reports.
What You'll Bring
Education and Experience
Completed at least 2 years towards a Bachelor of Science (BS) Degree in Engineering, Architecture, or equivalent required
Prior internship experience in the building design consulting industry preferred
Required Skills/Abilities
Strong interest in sustainability and innovation
Working knowledge of building interior and exterior systems
Working knowledge of green building certifications such as LEED, WELL, Living Building, etc.
Proficient with MS Office Suite including, but not limited to, Word, Excel, and Outlook
Ability to clearly communicate in both oral and written communication to individuals or groups

The team supports sustainability, decarbonization, and compliance initiatives
Current work includes energy modeling, LL97 and LL88 support, audits, solar and BESS analysis, and NYSERDA support
The team contributes across strategic growth services and executive leadership initiatives
Recent work includes St. Barnabas Clean Green Hospital Study, Healthcare / Decarbonization, and DCAS Task Order 1 - IMEG-TO1-EER, Government / Municipal Energy Services

Pay Range: $22.00–$24.00 per hour
The range listed above represents the base pay IMEG reasonably and in good faith expects to pay for this position in the work location identified above at the time of posting. For positions available in multiple locations, the minimums and maximums may vary based on work location.
Individual compensation will be determined based on job-related factors, including the candidate’s experience, education, knowledge, skills, abilities, and licensure and certifications.
