Job Summary

The Research Assistant I provides assistance to the Principal Investigator and Study Team in coordinating research activities that may include conducting a variety of routine experiments with established methodologies, data collection and management, and other research activities as assigned.

Candidates who are in the process of completing their bachelor’s degree will have a grace period of six months from their hire date to provide degree equivalency verification, or up to one year if starting in a per diem capacity.

Essential Functions:

Collects, manages, manipulates, analyzes, and reports research data.
Supports study cohort management and maintenance.
Conducts outreach and communication with study subjects, including mailings, follow-up communications, and collection of required documentation.
Provides research support for epidemiological studies and other population-based research initiatives.


 

Qualifications

Working under the supervision of a Principal Investigator and Research Coordinator and following established policies and procedures, provides assistance on clinical research studies. May be responsible for the following activities: recruiting and evaluating patients for studies; collecting and organizing patient data; scheduling patients for study visits; transporting laboratory specimens; maintaining and updating data generated by the study.

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 

1. Conduct HIV, COVID-19, and other infectious disease Clinical Trials in both healthy and immunocompromised individuals.

2. Provide assistance on clinical research studies as per study guidelines and protocols.

3. May contribute to study and database design, if applicable.

4. Recruit and evaluate potential study participants. Per protocol instruction, conduct telephone interviews and schedule participants for study visits and screening.

5. Responsible for managing various regulatory submissions to the Institutional Review Board and/or Biosafety Committee (i.e. study registrations, amendments, reportable events, study closures).

6. Responsible for maintaining patient information database for study. Required to input data and maintain participant records as part of record keeping function.

7. Responsible for preparing Case Report Forms for participant and monitor visits.

8. Responsible for assisting in quarterly monitoring visits from study sponsor.

9. Responsible for mailing various study information or packets to study participants.

10. Answer any phone calls and inquiries regarding study protocol. Refer participants, when appropriate, to supervisor or clinical staff.

11. Will be trained to perform clinical procedures such as, but not limited to: phlebotomy, vitals assessments, and other specimen collections as specified in the protocol.

12. Collect and coordinate transport of laboratory and tissue specimens to designated lab personnel. May include limited processing of samples, if needed.

13. Monitor and set up any needed equipment. 14. Maintain inventory and orders supplies when necessary.

14. All other duties, as assigned.

Bachelor's Degree Science required

SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:       

1. Excellent interpersonal skills are required for working with the study participants.

2. Good oral and written communication skills.

3. Knowledge of clinical research protocols.

4. Excellent organizational skills and ability to prioritize a variety of tasks. 5. Careful attention to detail.

6. Ability to demonstrate professionalism and respect for subjects’ rights and individual needs.

7. Some degree of computer literacy.

8. Ability to methodically record data.

WORKING CONDITIONS:     

Works in an Infectious Disease ambulatory clinic setting located in the main hospital.
