The Business Operations Department at the University of Miami Rosenstiel School of Marine, Atmospheric and Earth Science has an exciting full time opportunity for a Financial Analyst 1.
Specifically, the Financial Analyst will:
- Develop, analyze and maintain various reports based upon current and historical data; review operating budgets to analyze trends affecting budget needs; conduct quarterly analyses of operating expenses; and provide year-end projections.
- Manage over fifty operational accounts (general, designated, restricted and/or plant accounts) and ensure they are being adequately monitored and reconciled; monitor, verify, and reconcile expenditure of budgeted funds. Responsible for expenditure control.
- Review and approve salary transactions, employee expense reimbursements, capital equipment acquisitions, journal entries, and purchase orders requests.
- Meet with faculty as needed to provide updates and forecasting to assure correct expenditures and allocation for accounts.
- Serve as a resource for other departments providing assistance to faculty and staff with cost analysis and fiscal allocation. Consult with departments regarding budget analysis, financial reports, reconciliations, irregular and unusual transactions and problem resolutions.
- Train faculty and staff on university financial systems. Communicate and enforce policies and procedures.
- Work in conjunction with manager on space allocation reporting including but not limited to effort distribution analysis, determination of space utilization, and providing reports regarding space use and allocations.
- Work with faculty and department administrators regarding equipment inventory. Work in conjunction with manager on annual equipment certification.
- Oversee fiscal management for assigned cost centers including billing, expenditure requests, account reconciliations, annual budget creation and end of fiscal year closing processes.
- Input and extract data from various business application systems, provide information to faculty and staff as needed.
- Be responsible and lead several fiscal and operational recurring functions within the Business Office’s purview.
- Assist with the adherence to and execution of the division’s annual budget in accordance with University Budget Guidelines and Policies.
- Responsible for creating and sustaining a collaborative work environment where personnel is treated respectfully, ethically and professionally at all times; responsible for building positive and productive relationships with colleagues at all levels and departments across campus.
- Performance, at the highest professional level, of all other duties as may be assigned by the Senior Business Officer.
QUALIFICATIONS
- A bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting or related field is required.
- A combination of a strong background with computer application systems, excellent excel skills, accounting, and financial analytical skills are critical.
- At least three years of progressively responsible experience, preferably in an academic and research setting.
- Ability to work in a complex environment with the skills to manage multiple projects and deadlines, establish priorities, set objectives, and achieve stated goals.
